Windows 8.1 install - unable to create ramdisk - 0xc1900101-0x20017

When I attempt to install Windows 8.1 on my machine from the Windows Store, on boot I receive a blue screen. The error message indicates that the system was unable to create a ramdisk and shows error number 0xc1900101.

On reboot, it restores my original installation and provides the following error code: 0xc1900101-0x20017.

In reading some other topics, it seems drivers may need to be updated, but as far as I know I am up-to-date. Is there a way to identify which driver had a failure?

Also, on other threads with this code, I see no mention of a "ramdisk". Is that a unique problem?

Edit: Let me note my system has no ramdisk software installed whatsoever.

    I recently tried to update to 8.1 after waiting 6+ months when I first received the 0xc1900101 - 0x20017 error. I have since received this error every single time and each time I try some new suggestion. Tier 1 support could not assist in a remote session. I will see what tier 2 says. I am also trying some further suggestions today after work.

    My laptop is an HP ~1 year old and was pre-installed with windows 8. I will eventually post every detail of what I am running. From everything i've read, NVIDIA chipset seems to be the culprit for most. Any word?

    im replying to confirm that i tried this person's solution for upgrading to Windows 8.1 and it worked for me! This solution will ONLY work if you are missing the system reserved partition that for some reason disappeared when i upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Pro.

    I can't tell you how glad i am that i finally got this issue resolved. Hope this helps other people who were having the same issues.

    Come on Microsoft!!

    I have contacted MS Support and they tell me if it's old hardware no longer supported they cannot do anymore. I think we all need to make official COMPLAINTS!!! We were duped into buying Windows 8 by their claims that Windows 8 will be the first OS to require Lower system resources, and our hardware was compatible...

    Q6600, XFX Nforce 680i, Geforce 560i, 8 GB Ram (tried the before mentioned USB installation and failed. Unable to find any newer bios updates - all links dead)

    Their only solution: Upgrade your Motherboard. So If I upgrade BM I may as well get newer RAM and Processor... But they work just fine now!! Not good enough MS, with just a little effort from your engineers I'm sure you could create an update to fix this and we'd give you glowing reviews about customer services support on Amazon etc... :)

    Did you solve your problem ?

    I have the same problem and it is impossible to install Win 8.1 from the Store.

    I have a nvidia nforce 630i and on some topics, they say that Microsoft doesn't support this motherboard.

    Have you got a solution ?

    No not yet but I am going to attempt some of the methods on this thread when I get the time.. It's an absolute scandal that we have to go to these lengths.
