Thanks, I went ahead and asked a microsoft tech support rep and they basically said it was being pushed through no matter what your automatic update setting is, I guess as long as the windows update service is started. I have two PCs though , both running different versions of windows 7 with SP1. One Pc got the new WUA 7.6.7600.320 update automatically yesterday and one hasn't received it yet. Anyway thanks for your responses  :)

You did what I as going to (call Microsoft) but being Saturday I figured they were closed for the weekend.

I checked two of my computers (both with Windows Updates being disabled) and none show this update being installed or listed in updates to be installed, go figure.  I'll keep an eye out for it the next time I manually run Windows Update.

I am having the same issue.  Except its not JUST that one update.  I've got FOUR Windows updates that downloaded and installed without my knowledge or permission.  And I suspect I totally messed up another one today thinking I'd picked up a virus

My Windows Update settings are ALSO set to notify me when there's an update but NOT download or install without my permission.  That hasn't changed, and when I "check for updates" it tells me that the last time I updated the computer was 7/24/2014 (which is what I remember).  However when I actually look at the list of installed updates I see these:

And then this afternoon, my computer suddenly forced a reboot, and on reboot began installing updates, and I FREAKED thinking I'd picked up a virus, interrupted the reboot/install, forced it into safemode, ran a virus scan, which came back clean, tried to restore to the restore point from the 24th only to discover that there'd been newer installs AND that because I'd interrupted the reboot/install I'd screwed up my computer.

If it had just been the one update to the updater I'd tolerate it, but its doing it with far more than that, and thats a problem.

I am seeing that since this update that MSE Security Essentials is failing to update with 'connection' failed during the 'install' phase.  Download seems to be doing something, but won't install.

After the update I did see 2 updates to MSE 1.179.1743.0 & 1.179.1889.0

From 1.179.1986.0 on they are all failing with Network connection failed.

I've rebooted the router/modem and restarted the PC and also saw the registry update 65 of 65 complete, but MSE is still failing to Update.
