Although I have my computer set to notify me when there are updates before I install them, my computer automatically updated
Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320. Do I need this update and why did it load into my computer before I selected. I have searched for some explanation as to what this program is but am unable to find anything. WHAT IS IT?

We all had windows update set to notify us before downloading and installing any updates, yet this one automatically downloaded and installed. and yes I am running SP1 windows 7 home edition
The option is in the Control Panel / Windows Update / Left column: Change settings
Once you disable Windows Update you will need to remember to manually run Windows Updates (Patch Tuesday, the second Tuesday of each month is when the updates are released, but I would wait a day or two as the servers are sometimes slow on Tuesday.

I am questioning the same issue(s) too. First, is this a legitimate MS update? Second, my auto update is also set to check with me before downloading and installing updates. Yet, it is not unusual for MSE updates to be updated without my permission. Is there some MSE update option that overrides the Windows option? Where would I change that MSE option? In this day and age, it causes me to feel angst when my PC is doing WHO KNOWS WHAT?
Yes, SP1 is installed.
Do you have Service Pack 1 installed?
