Asus T100 transformer tablet running Windows 8.1 - startup issue

Hi all,

I'm having an issue where if I restart the tablet it gets stuck between shutting down and starting up leaving me with a black screen. I usually then have to soft reset it by holding the power button down for 10 seconds after which it starts up as normal. It sometimes does this after a regular shut down or even sometimes after it's just been asleep. I have done several factory resets slowly installing windows updates, programs, everything I can think of to no avail. This is the third tablet (2 replacements) so I'm thinking it's not a hardware issue. Asus don't think it's a known problem and I've trawled the net but I haven't found many others having this issue. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone,

I have faced the same problem. But yesterday I tried to update Bios to last version (216) from http://support.asus.com.tw/. Asus Live Update in my T100 dosn't show this update, it is necessary to download it from web pages.

After Bios update everything looks OK, no problems after reboot or sleep.

    i am stuck... just received my unit, i did lots of updates. the last was bios 226.

    And doest turn on. i have amber light on. if i hold the power for 4-5sec light go off and nothing. 

    I have try holding power for 5-15-15-20---- seconds and nothing.

    power + esc. .... 5-10-15-20 seconds .. nothing power + volume up for 5-10-15-20 seconds and still nothing.

    any ideas?

    I had been avoiding doing the full system restore since this seemed like more of a driver/firmware issue, but I finally did the factory reset and things look good now (running BIOS version 304).  So +1 for the idea of BIOS flash and factory restore if you run into issues with being unable to wake the screen after it blanks.

    Note:  If you can still run Windows, you can do a simple factory reset by going into Settings -> Change PC settings -> Update and recovery -> Recovery -> Reinstall Windows

    Oh well ... looks like the problem is still at large.  Things looked good the first day, but after plugging it in overnight, it's just as bad or worse now.  Seems like it screws up pretty much every time the screen goes blank and I hit the button to wake it now.  Really annoying.

    About that downgrade - I tried it.  WinFlash reported I had 304 (not 307!) installed.  I sure thought I'd installed something called 307 but I must have been mistaken.  In any event, WinFlash to (re?) install 304 because my current BIOS version was "newer."  Might want to re-think that one, ASUS!

    I've actually tried an after-market charger because I thought maybe the stock charger was the problem. Oddly, I seem to get the same or better mileage with a store-bought 1 amp output universal USB charger as I do with the stock 2 amp charger.

    Meanwhile, I've update the chipset and Broadcom wifi drivers.  We'll see whether that has any effect.
