Asus T100 transformer tablet running Windows 8.1 - startup issue

Hi all,

I'm having an issue where if I restart the tablet it gets stuck between shutting down and starting up leaving me with a black screen. I usually then have to soft reset it by holding the power button down for 10 seconds after which it starts up as normal. It sometimes does this after a regular shut down or even sometimes after it's just been asleep. I have done several factory resets slowly installing windows updates, programs, everything I can think of to no avail. This is the third tablet (2 replacements) so I'm thinking it's not a hardware issue. Asus don't think it's a known problem and I've trawled the net but I haven't found many others having this issue. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone,

I have faced the same problem. But yesterday I tried to update Bios to last version (216) from http://support.asus.com.tw/. Asus Live Update in my T100 dosn't show this update, it is necessary to download it from web pages.

After Bios update everything looks OK, no problems after reboot or sleep.

    On May 6th I tried installing an Asus Update through the Update utility that came installed on the laptop. The update crashed and after the tablet went to sleep I couldn't turn it on. Chatted with an Asus support rep and I was told to send it in for repairs. I sent it on May 10th and got confirmation that it arrived on May 14th. For more than 2 weeks I tried to get an update on repair status. Nobody couldn't. I was told my case was escalated and I will receive a phone call. That didn't happen. Then I was told I will get an email. That didn't happen either. On June 2nd the repair status page finally returned some info. It stated that it was in repair and that it was received on May 30th which is a lie as I had confirmation several times that it reached on May 14th. Overall a very frustrating experience. And very disappointing by how Asus handled the case. Now I see there's a trend and there are many people in my situation. This confirms the alert on the BBB asus page:

    I really hope that I will get my tablet fixed and all the problems will end but somehow I have a bad feeling about it

    i believe i know what your problem is with the asus

    i had the same problem (as have many other) and had to send mine back too due to starting up and shutting down.

    what happened to mine was that i had also bought the "asus" protective cover with the keyboard built in it.  do you have one of these? 

    if so, it (the "asus" protective case/keyboard) is the problem.

    you probably had the start and stop problem, then removed your pad from the protective case and damaged the on-off switch.  it is very difficult to get the tablet out of the case without it accidentally prying the tablet's backing off.

    if your tablet is damaged, send it in for a new one.  if you have a new one don't put it back in the case without first cutting out the on-off switch from the case and using a rotary file to open the hole where no part of the tablets' on-off switch is touching the case...   too bad asus has not figured this out yet..

    How can I do factory reset on mine if I can't turn it on. I've tried everything but it's dead. Only sign of life Is that when charging there is red blinking light next to  button

    I have the same problem, my tab wouldnt turn on.. I held the power button in for 10 sec, and it came on.But, i do not know what bios is, let alone how to update it. When I called the support number for asus, The guy was extremely inappropriate and refused to put me through to a supervisor. If i cant get help, im just returning it....and will never buy from asus again.
