Asus T100 transformer tablet running Windows 8.1 - startup issue

Hi all,

I'm having an issue where if I restart the tablet it gets stuck between shutting down and starting up leaving me with a black screen. I usually then have to soft reset it by holding the power button down for 10 seconds after which it starts up as normal. It sometimes does this after a regular shut down or even sometimes after it's just been asleep. I have done several factory resets slowly installing windows updates, programs, everything I can think of to no avail. This is the third tablet (2 replacements) so I'm thinking it's not a hardware issue. Asus don't think it's a known problem and I've trawled the net but I haven't found many others having this issue. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone,

I have faced the same problem. But yesterday I tried to update Bios to last version (216) from http://support.asus.com.tw/. Asus Live Update in my T100 dosn't show this update, it is necessary to download it from web pages.

After Bios update everything looks OK, no problems after reboot or sleep.

    About that downgrade - I tried it.  WinFlash reported I had 304 (not 307!) installed.  I sure thought I'd installed something called 307 but I must have been mistaken.  In any event, WinFlash to (re?) install 304 because my current BIOS version was "newer."  Might want to re-think that one, ASUS!

    I've actually tried an after-market charger because I thought maybe the stock charger was the problem. Oddly, I seem to get the same or better mileage with a store-bought 1 amp output universal USB charger as I do with the stock 2 amp charger.

    Meanwhile, I've update the chipset and Broadcom wifi drivers.  We'll see whether that has any effect.

    I wonder if they may have known issues with 307 and pulled it or something ... 304 is the latest on their site as of today.  Might want to try a downgrade.  

    Also, one thing that threw me for a loop when I got this thing is that it doesn't like to charge from other chargers, such as an ipad adapter.  (It will show that it's charging, but never actually does.)  So make sure you're plugged into the factory charger while you're in testing everything out.

    I just installed Bios #307, and my battery drain problem seems to have gotten worse!  As with Bios #226, the battery drains while using the device PLUGGED IN, but even faster!!

    I had an issue with the T100 not waking up after the display went dark occasionally as well.  For me, it seemed to do it somewhat randomly, even if the screen had only just gone blank for a few seconds (not 10 or 15 minutes as some reported).  I was having the issue with BIOS v. 227.  

    I updated to the new BIOS version out there now (304) and also updated the latest chipset driver and ATK driver (requires removal of previous ATK package in add/remove programs) as Vaypers mentioned.

    Not sure just yet, but it seems like things are looking better so far.  Fingers crossed that one of those updates did the trick and it lasts.
