Updates KB2972216 and KB2894854 fail to install.

Hi there,

The subject, windows update fails to updates and KB2894854 and keep asking to them. What should I do?

Restoring from a 2 month old back up does not put your system in the clear. These things do not build up over night. You need to run Malwarebytes and ADW Cleaner on the restored system and upload log files on what has been removed. You can then see what further needs to be done.

Dear Gerry and others,

I have managed to resolve the issue by myself! Yay!!!!

So, firstly, you was right.

After I rolled back to previous back up, it was fine except one thing - I still have Login delay :(((( , but I managed to install all updates (problem one included).

Suddenly, I realized one thing! The system backup that I was on has something different from the original system state, that is while I was using original system, I have deleted all folders and files in "Installer folder"  (C:\Windows\Installer).

After realization of that, I was wondering: "What will happen if I just copy all folders from present system state(the one I rolled back on) to the last one(Original state)?" Good thing is before rollback to earlier backup I have made backup (sorry for tautology).

So, after 30 minutes, now I am using my original system. I copied all folders from earlier backup back to their original place(C:\Windows\Installer), restarted pc, started windows update and waited with my fingers crossed... Whola! KB2972216 and KB2894854 are successfully installed!

Also, I have installed  Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and ADW Cleaner. Anti-Malware found nothing and ADW Cleaner Found a little bit. I wiped out almost all of it except Tencent folder (it is where QQ is a Chinese messenger, I need it) and something other folders.

After that I restart my computer again and... Well, it seems that the last problem for me is Login delay.

I will be very appreciated if you can help me resolve it.

    It could be difficult when things don't work the way it should be on your computer. This problem may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:  

    • The Windows Update database is corrupted.
    • Antivirus software is configured to scan the %Windir%\SoftwareDistribution folder.
    • The Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) service does not receive a content link header.
    • A required system file is registered incorrectly.
    • Windows Installer encountered an error.
    • The Component Based Servicing (CBS) manifest is corrupted.
    • The Windows Update service stopped during the installation.
    • A file version conflict exists with Windows Update agent files.

    Let's try to narrow down to see what is causing this issue and try to fix it.

    First of all, I suggest you to go to Windows update and provide us the error code of the failed updates. To do so, check in the view update history, double click on the fail update to know the error code. Refer the link:

    Please follow the methods mentioned below:

    Method 1: If your computer is having problems finding and installing operating system updates, try using a Windows Update troubleshooter to fix the problem. It makes sure that your computer is connected to the Internet, and checks to see whether your network adapter and Windows Update services are running correctly.

    Open the Windows Update troubleshooter

    Method 2: 

    Step 1: If you have installed any third party security software on your computer, I suggest you to

    temporarily disable them and check.

    Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    **Step 2:**I suggest you to manually reset the Windows Updates Components. Follow the steps:

    1. Click on Start.
    2. Type CMD in search bar. 
    3. Right click on Command prompt and select Run in as administrator.
    4. Stop the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. To do this, type the following commands at a command prompt. Press the ENTER key after you type each command.

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptSvc 

    net stop bits

    net stop msiserver

    1. Now rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder. You can do this by typing the following commands in the Command Prompt. Press the ENTER key after you type each command.

    ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

    1. Now, let’s restart the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. Type the following commands in the Command Prompt for this. Press the ENTER key after you type each command.

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptSvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

    1. Type Exit in the Command Prompt to close it.

    Now you may try running the Windows Updates and check if the above steps resolve the issue.

    I have run Windows Update troubleshooter and done all steps, now I am getting error 0x80072EF and cannot update at all :(((((
