Windows Update Error (80244FFF)

I've been having an issue updating my copy of Windows 8.1.  I went into Windows Update and noticed that it hadn't checked for updates since November 1st.  Every time I run Windows Update, either on the desktop or tiled interface, it gives a 80244FFF error.  It is able to download and install Windows Defender definition updates.  I've tried turning off Windows Defender and firewall, plugging my PC directly into the cable modem, trying Safe Mode (Which doesn't allow Windows Update to run), scanning all my drives for errors, and disconnecting all my hard drives except the boot drive but nothing has worked.  I don't want to "Refresh" my copy of Windows 8.1 given that I have many desktop applications and don't want to reinstall manually.

I did find a workaround, of sorts, using WSUS Offline, but I'm wanting the normal Windows Update process to work as intended.  Below is my log from the Windows directory showing what has been happening.  I'm surprised that there are no Action Center items saying Windows Update isn't working.  Is there a way to get Windows Update running as it should?

I am amazed that after a clean install you are still getting the 80244FFF error although other people have reported the same thing. I assume you hadn't completely updated to to 8.1 update 1... right? I'd suggest force feeding it up to update 1 whatever way works. Manual updates, proxy setting etc. Update 1 seems to have fixed the 80244FFF error for a number of people. The 80244FFF was a generic error basically saying your computer could not communicate with the update servers. After a year of no help at all from Microsoft the problem mysteriously disappears for some and is replaced by another mysterious error, which eventually is fixed... for me without having even received an update I can attribute to it suddenly working. It revolved around the update 1 updates.

I would also suggest you update anything having to do with networking. If there is a newer driver for your NIC, get it. If there is a ROM update for your router, get it. This has to be some weird networking issue combined with some flaw in Windows that was eventually addressed. FWIW, I just received another security update (KB2962140) without issue. In fact, for me many months of having problems, seems to be behind me (knock..knock..knock). Hang in there, I bet you get it worked out.

After a few weeks of no problems, I started getting error 80240442 too. After I did a cleanup install, I started getting error 80244FFF too.

I don't know if I am or not.  Only time will tell I guess. I know of no chronological list. I don't receive any errors at all.  I did get that IE Flash Player update automatically. I am offered optional updates like the Bing Desktop 1.3.4. I have always received Defender updates which seem to come almost daily.

So I noticed that the computer didn't shut down properly last night and I restarted it this morning only to notice that I had a Windows Update?  Some IE update but now it is able to check again without error 80240442.  Maybe error 80240442 is really on the server end of things?  There was an update pushed last night (4/30)... everything else is working again.  I have no clue.

One thing about the Proxy. Specifying the loopback  properly is crucial it must be exactly this:

    <-loopback>

Note the hyphen before the L

My eyes are so bad I didn't see the hyphen the first time around and that caused it to fail. I'm not 100% convinced mine is fixed. The only update I have received since KB2919355 other than numerous Defender updates (which have always worked for some odd reason) is a Security update for IE Flash Player or 2961887. I'm finding it hard to believe there has been nothing other than that since the 20th.

So you're in the same boat?  Maybe there are no updates since 4/20/2014?  Is there anywhere that has the list of all Windows 8.1 updates chronologically to manually update?
