Windows 8.1 BSOD: netwlv64.sys

My Windows 8.1 Pro running on HP 8510w mobile workstation keeps crashing with a Blue Screen of Death STOP error on random accasions.

Bugcheck code 0x000000d1, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQAL in netwlv64.sys

The driver is related to the built-in Intel WiFi Link 4965AGN WLAN module.

This is a fresh installation of Windows 8.1 Pro. Using default Microsoft driver for the wireless module:

Driver Provider: Microsoft

Driver Date: 15.08.2010

Driver Version: 13.3.0.137

There is no driver for Windows 8.1 provided by Intel for this module. The one from Microsoft obviously does not work properly and crashes Windows 8.1.

There is another issue with this driver not re-connecting after standby but this I was able to resolve by disabling 802.11n Mode in advanced device properties (device manager). But this is another topic.

There seems to be something seriously wrong with the driver Microsoft provides and Internet research provides many results about people having the same issue. Does anybody have an idea how to fix the issues?

    I'm one of the many folks using the Intel 4965AGN card, and I'm not inclined to find a swap for it (assuming I could), since it worked just fine in Win8.0 and Win8.1CP.

    This is a bug, pure and simple (and a nasty one at that). Not to be mean, but suggesting that people swap out supposedly supported hardware for an undefined hardware solution in order to work around a bug is almost as worthwhile as asking them to waste even more time reverting to a previous OS after having spent at least that much time moving to the new OS.

    Hi,

    I have the exact same problem. No problem in Windows 8 / Random crashes in 8.1

    Running an x64 version.

    I'm currently trying an old Vista X64 driver from Dell, as some people seem to suggest it might work. If I don't post back...assume it worked.

    FYI, My Dell M1330 with 4965AGN BSOD 3 times the day after I installed Windows 8.1

    Based on Coincoinlapin's experience I installed the Vista 64-bit Intel Wireless release 12.4.3 containing device driver 12.4.3.9 from Dell from file named R239284.

    So far it has gone 12 hours with no BSOD. I will report back later how it goes.

    What I have not tested is the sleep function with this driver.

    I said I would report my findings. They are bad. The system continued to BSOD even with the Vista x64 driver. Thanks to a Macrium Reflect disk image I am returning this laptop to Windows 7.

    I am sorry I couldn't provide anything useful here, other than to say "me too."

    Sorry to hear that. Did you use a vista driver specifically developed for your laptop brand?

    I've been using a dell vista driver on my dell laptop and haven't had a single BSOD since (10 days approx.)

    I'm not sure what the 8.1 update changes but boot times are great and I love the boot to desktop option.

    Best of luck.
