Windows 8.1 BSOD: netwlv64.sys

My Windows 8.1 Pro running on HP 8510w mobile workstation keeps crashing with a Blue Screen of Death STOP error on random accasions.

Bugcheck code 0x000000d1, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQAL in netwlv64.sys

The driver is related to the built-in Intel WiFi Link 4965AGN WLAN module.

This is a fresh installation of Windows 8.1 Pro. Using default Microsoft driver for the wireless module:

Driver Provider: Microsoft

Driver Date: 15.08.2010

Driver Version: 13.3.0.137

There is no driver for Windows 8.1 provided by Intel for this module. The one from Microsoft obviously does not work properly and crashes Windows 8.1.

There is another issue with this driver not re-connecting after standby but this I was able to resolve by disabling 802.11n Mode in advanced device properties (device manager). But this is another topic.

There seems to be something seriously wrong with the driver Microsoft provides and Internet research provides many results about people having the same issue. Does anybody have an idea how to fix the issues?

    Using wifi? WHat I gathered it is the wifi card ingeneral...nothing to do with the network itself. Use wifi for the internet is what I am asking. Not using it to print reports wirelessly... LOL

    Network "card" is what he likely meant. Whether it's browsing, WiFi printing, Remote Desktop Connection, etc...WiFi is turned on and the buggy driver could cause BSOD regardless of the application running. It won't matter if Chrome is running in desktop or WIndows 8 modern app mode, if it's still using the wireless card/driver to connect to the internet it's still at risk to fail.

    If we're still not understanding your question, don't "LOL". Ask it again. People here are just trying to help.

    No "LOL", that was something I thought had been erased. Oops. I understand the driver is still running. I had Win8 for 1 yr and never experienced BSOD...never. Upgraded to Win8.1 and bam! Losing work left and right. So the thought of using Win8 mode, eg...working OS, was a thought. But I understand your explanation, thanks. I'm pretty much just thinking outloud while I wait for the new card to arrive.

    I gotcha. I agree. Downgrading to Windows 8 crossed my mind too, but I don't want to do that either.

    Hi,

    I was an early adaptor of Win 8.0 and never had a problem with our (old) HP laptops. A month after installing 8.1 the netwlv64.sys BSOD started. Now (Jan. 2014) it occurs several times a day. No doubt “something” happened between 8.0 and 8.1 that is not fully understood or admitted.

    Please let me know if anyone comes up with a solution.

    FIXED!!! Happy dance, oh HAPPY DANCE!!! Bought a Centrino Ultimate 6300N card to replace the 4965AGN card. Under $30, took 5 minutes to replace, and NO BSOD anymore!!! Added bonus, my lapyop is now a dual band wifi! 

    Easiest, least expensive fix...replace your old, un-supported 4965AGN card with one that is supported. VOILA!
