Windows 8.1 BSOD: netwlv64.sys

My Windows 8.1 Pro running on HP 8510w mobile workstation keeps crashing with a Blue Screen of Death STOP error on random accasions.

Bugcheck code 0x000000d1, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQAL in netwlv64.sys

The driver is related to the built-in Intel WiFi Link 4965AGN WLAN module.

This is a fresh installation of Windows 8.1 Pro. Using default Microsoft driver for the wireless module:

Driver Provider: Microsoft

Driver Date: 15.08.2010

Driver Version: 13.3.0.137

There is no driver for Windows 8.1 provided by Intel for this module. The one from Microsoft obviously does not work properly and crashes Windows 8.1.

There is another issue with this driver not re-connecting after standby but this I was able to resolve by disabling 802.11n Mode in advanced device properties (device manager). But this is another topic.

There seems to be something seriously wrong with the driver Microsoft provides and Internet research provides many results about people having the same issue. Does anybody have an idea how to fix the issues?

    Still no crash here (5 days). Try a vista x64 driver (from your manufacturer...preferably...I guess).

    You are probably right, at least partially. I have downloaded "R239284.exe" from dell download servers. See here.

    Then just extracted the driver using 7-Zip.

    Driver Provider: Intel

    Driver Date: 28.05.2009

    Driver Version: 12.4.3.9

    However I had massive issues with this driver to resume from standby. It simply won't reconnect to any WiFi network after standby resume. In Previous (version 13) driver I had to disable 802.11n mode to work around this issue. For driver version 12.4.3.9 this did not help. However it helped to disable the power management option "Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power" in device manager. In addition I have disabled MSI (see previous post). I did not even disable 802.11n mode yet.

    I can't tell whether this is totally stable now as I said I am going to migrate to Linux and did already. Only keeping Windows installations on VM or on replacement HDD. Windows 8.1 turned into the worst user experience I ever had, topping out Windows ME and Vista by far. Here in the forums we get responses from Microsoft technicians which are either completely unrelated to the question or even recommending to switch back to Windows 7. Perhaps somebody could tell me how I re-install Office 2013 which now believes it's bound to Windows 8.1 so it can't be re-installed ;). Nevermind.

    Anyway I don't get why Microsoft includes a driver which was working fine back then on Windows 7 and now they broke something in kernel interfaces or power management which does not work with the driver and even keeps crashing the kernel. The older driver might work partially but seems to be only partial solution (disabled power management and MSI required on my machine).

    So going for outdated 12.4 driver seems to be the best option we have. Or move to any other stable OS.

    BSOD!!

    Well I have now been hit by this same problem also...

    I have been a VERY HAPPY windows 8.0 user without any issues.

    I have the Wifi Link 4965AGM wifi hardware in my Zepto 6625WD laptop and all worked super nice before windows 8.1

    Now I have see the BSOD screen twice with the exact same details as you all write!

    Why is this 8.1 update destroying our good windows 8.x experience??

    I _REALLY_ hope Microsoft is finding a solution for this issue???

    Still stable since this morning with the vista driver (v12.4.3.9 - 2009).

    My pc only crashes once a day max. So we'll see in a week.

    Lucky you. Well, once a day... I am used to reboot my machine once every month when Windows updates are released.

    Well, going to install Linux now.

    Still stable since this morning with the Dell vista driver (v12.4.3.9 - 2009 x64).

    With the microsoft driver, my pc only crashed once a day max. So we'll see in a week.
