Dialog box appears with ! sign in a yellow triangle appears while accessing Windows Explorer

Hi Ashish,

This issue can be caused due to any of the following issues:

• System files on your PC may be corrupt or mismatched with other files.
• Some third party applications or services running on your PC may be causing issues with Windows Explorer.

Please assist me with more information related to this issue.

1. What is the model of your HP computer?
2. Do you receive any error message or prompt when you access Windows Explorer?

Please follow the methods mentioned below.

Method 1: Run the System Maintenance troubleshooter.

a. Press Windows key + W and type Troubleshooting.

b. Select Troubleshooting.

c. Select view all on the top left corner.

d. Click System Maintenance, follow onscreen instructions.

Method 2:

I would suggest you check the issue in Safe mode. If the issue doesn’t persist in safe mode perform clean boot.  Follow the steps.

Step 1: Refer the following link to boot the computer in safe mode:

If the issue does not occur in safe mode you may move to step 2:

Step 2: Clean boot process will help you determine which third party program/app that is causing this issue. It could be some other application or programs, which runs on the computer at the background, leading to this issue.

I would suggest you to perform clean boot and check.

Note: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

Method 3:

Let us try to run System File Checker (SFC Scan) as this could be an issue with corruption in Windows system files.

System File Checker is a utility in Microsoft Windows that allows users to scan for and restore corruptions in Windows system files

Perform System File Check (SFC), and then check if this fixes the issue.

Follow the steps:

1. Press Windows Key + Q to open Charms Bar.
2. Type “cmd” without quotes in the search box.
3. On the left pane, right click on the cmd option and select Run as Administrator.
4. Type ‘sfc /scannow’ without quotes and hit enter.

Note: It may ask for windows installation DVD to fix and to enable SFC to make more than minor repairs. Some files saved on your computer might get deleted when fixing corrupted files.

If the issue persist, please provide us the event viewer logs to find the exact cause and to troubleshoot the issue further.

NOTE: Try to access Windows Explorer, so that event viewer record the logs.

Event Viewer is a tool that displays detailed information about significant events (for example, programs that don't start as expected or updates that are downloaded automatically) on your computer. Event Viewer can be helpful when troubleshooting problems and errors with Windows and other programs.

1. Press the Windows key and X and select Event Viewer.
2. This will bring up the Event Viewer box. Click to open the event viewer.
3. In the left pane, expand out Windows Logs.
4. Most of your event will be Information. You may see Yellow Warnings or Red Errors.

sir for operating in safe mode & to perform clean boot is it necessary to create a backup of recovery disc?

m asking dis cz i haven't created any backup in DVDs or PD....

I would like to inform you that to boot the computer in safe mode or to perform clean boot, there is not need to create a recovery backup.

Please try the methods suggested in my earlier post and reply us with the results to assist you further.

during safe mode operation the problem is not continuing......

nw wat should i do?

also i hv a software dll file fixer it shows dat i have 339 registry errors & shows that PC health is poor.....

I would recommend you not to install any third party registry cleaners as it could harm your computer.

Regarding the issue with Windows Explorer, I would suggest you to please follow the suggestions provided by me on April 17,2014.
