Dialog box appears with ! sign in a yellow triangle appears while accessing Windows Explorer

Original Title: explorer.exe file creating problem......     

i bought an hp laptop with genuine windows 8.....

earlier it operated nycly bt nw its encountering a problem. when i switch on my lapy the home screens comes in front of me bt without doing anything suddenly desktop opens & a dialog box appear with ! sign in a yellow triangle & written explorer.exe. m facing this problem for more thn a month & my laptop z also slowed down. i have thoroughly scanned my pc with avast internet security & windows defender bt no result came out except 3 viruses which i deleted on the spot.

if any person can help me out in getting rid of this problem i will b very thankful to him/her.

    Hi Ashish,

    After performing startup repair, you don't have to re-install installed programs.

    Startup Repair scans your computer for the problem and then tries to fix it so your computer can start correctly. Startup Repair is one of the recovery tools in the System Recovery Options menu. This set of tools is located on your computer's hard disk and on the Windows installation disc.

    There could be possibilities that the problem my not persist if you upgrade to Windows 8.1.

    Upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 will not lose any data or installed programs.

    Make sure you have enough free disk space. If you're currently running Windows 8, you need 3,000 MB of available space to install the 32-bit version of Windows 8.1, and 3,850 MB of available space to install the 64-bit version of Windows 8.1. On a Windows RT device, you need 2,250 MB of available disk space to install Windows RT 8.1.

    Ashish, I would suggest you to perform startup repair and reply us on the status of the issue to assist you further.

    sir, i hv some questions

    1. after performing startup repair i hv to reinstall all my current programs??
    2. if in present situation i upgrade to windows 8.1 will the problem continue?
    3. after upgrading to 8.1 do i have to reinstall my currently installed programs??
    4. what is the size of windows 8.1 file which v download for upgradation??

    Hi Ashish,

    I would suggest you to try performing Startup Repair using installation media from Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and check.

    If you don’t have the installation media, I would recommend you to create installation media and try to perform Startup repair and check if it helps in fixing the issue.

    Step 1: Refer to the following link to create installation media:

    Step 2:

    To perform Startup repair on Windows 8 computer, follow these steps:

    a. Insert the media such as (USB or DVD) and restart your computer.

    b. Press F12 key (typically this is F12, but it can differ between computer manufacturers) and choose the drive that you inserted the installation media into.

    c. Once the Windows Setup window appears, follow these steps:

    d. Click next and select Repair your computer.

    e. You will then see a blue screen and an option to choose. Choose the option Troubleshoot and select advanced options.

    f. You may choose Startup Repair from Advanced boot option.

    g. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the Startup Repair.
