Windows 8 / 8.1 - Num Lock on startup screen

Hi,

When I start up my pc and get to the screen where I need to enter my password, sometimes the NumLock key is activated, sometimes it isn't. This is really random.

I have the same problem on 2 different pc's, one win 8 and the other win 8.1

I think I found a solution that works permanently:

It is also a change in the register but not the one I have read in most posts.

You go to the register
Open HKEY USERS
Open Default
Open Control Panel
Click on Keyboard
On the right side you get 4 keyboard items
InitialKeyboardIndicators has a number as data > 2147483648
Doubleclick on InitialKeyboardIndicators
In the small window you get you change the last 2 numbers from 48 to 50 and get 2147483650
Click on ok
Close the register window
Try again

I have been trying now for more than 10 times and it keeps coming up on time for the login screen no matter if it is a cold start or a restart... I hope it will last :-)

You might as well hit numlock on restart.

Slowing down Startup is not very helpful.

Hey, Guys.

Been struggling with this on my new laptop (Win 10 Pro)

First I clicked Start and typed "on-screen" and opened the keyboard and clicked "Options" and turned on Numlock.

This worked when windows is already signed-in. The Regedit someone posted... well... does the same thing lol. Since mine was already "2" in the process.

Ok, Guys... turn Fast Start back on. Start your machine up. On the Sign-In screen... click the little circle arrow thingy on the bottom right... it has accessibility options. Select On-Screen. Turn Numlock on. (Mine was off which gave me hope) and restarted. FIXED!!!

No idea how you figured his out, but so far it is working for me. Thank you to both of you guys for making it easier for the rest of us.

Just snooping around lol.

I do believe a cold boot resets this though. So someone needs to help with the regedit needed to make that one permanent.

sleep and restarts it stays. Shutting down the computer (cold start) resets it though which makes sense.

if your like most laptop owners and put your computer to sleep 99% of the time this is certainly a fix for you (and me :) )
