"Your computer is low on memory" when its clearly not

This problem started when i upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8.1

When i run a game, for example, Arma3 randomly throughout my game i'll be thrown back to windows desktop and presented with a message saying "Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs: 'Game name here'"

As you can see from the above screenshot i have 2.6gb in use and 5.3 free, so why does it think its out of memory?

I have set my pagefile from "system managed" to 16gb initial - 24gb max

This made no difference whatsoever..

My hardware has not changed, Like i said i noticed this almost instantly after upgrading to 8.1

Any help would be appreciated because as far as i'm aware theres no way to revert back to 8 from 8.1?

Thanks Adriaan - I have changed the registry setting and rebooting seems to help.

    Exact same problem on two different laptops.

    Used only for browsing and Word. I don't even save any files to the computers - I use an external drive.

    But keep getting stupid warning message about low memory.

    A virus doesn't make any sense in my case. I didn't have this problem until I updated the gaming client Origin. First I thought I had a memory leak with Dragon Age: Origins. I even took it off and reinstalled to see if I could solve any issues. A week later (today) I'm now seeing Firefox pop up with the same alert. It's a Win 8.1 bug, not a virus. I'm very computer savvy and usually figure out what I've downloaded that has malware. I make note of unchecking those sneaky boxes. If some form of virus/malware showed up, I'd know within 5 minutes of it happening.

    I use Win 8.1 at work. Fresh install since Dec 20 2015. After many updates, this low memory warning started to pop up by April 2nd. The only program installed before this date is VMware, which I run full screen some time. Out of 8 Gb, memory never went up from 40% used ( I tried every program I used at the same time) No virus involved with this Win 8.1 "feature"

    So, today I disabled the Virtual memory (no PageFile.sys on root folder) and I loaded the memory (8Gb) with two Virtual Machines (VM) and other programs until free memory was less than 1GB.

    Only at this point, Windows showed the Low Memory warning. I'd deduce that there's a problem with the Virtual Memory Management.
