"Your computer is low on memory" when its clearly not

This problem started when i upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8.1

When i run a game, for example, Arma3 randomly throughout my game i'll be thrown back to windows desktop and presented with a message saying "Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs: 'Game name here'"

As you can see from the above screenshot i have 2.6gb in use and 5.3 free, so why does it think its out of memory?

I have set my pagefile from "system managed" to 16gb initial - 24gb max

This made no difference whatsoever..

My hardware has not changed, Like i said i noticed this almost instantly after upgrading to 8.1

Any help would be appreciated because as far as i'm aware theres no way to revert back to 8 from 8.1?

Thanks Adriaan - I have changed the registry setting and rebooting seems to help.

    For me, WIndows 8.1 rendered my top notebook completely useless.

    I already had to disable SSD caching because it was freezing the whole system with 100% disc usage, should I now disable superfetch because it also not working properly?

    I'm not playing much games, but ****, I can't even do my job now, as soon as I launch something I get this freaking low memory dialog.

    Does Microsoft even plan to address this? Can we get any response from Microsoft representatives?

    This issue i can confirm has nothing to do with your video card memory. I get the error when i am just browsing the internet.

    The error in question seems to have to deal with virtual memory and windows 8.1 not actually managing your virtual memory properly.

    I would suggest making your paging file at least 16 gigs or more and not have windows automatically manage it anymore.

    Just wanted to say count me in to.

    I have an MSI GE60-0nd with 8GB RAM, an 3rd gen i7 and a GTX 660M.

    The error occurs whenever my RAM usage is near 45%.

    I read some other forums and it seems that computers with an integrated GPU and GPU switching are affected.

    Like everyone else this error started occuring once i updated to 8.1.

    It doesn't matter what game or program im running once the % of used ram gets near 45-50% the error pops up. updating graphics drivers(Nvidia and intell hd) didn't make any difference

    So ive been using a program to keep track of my usages and it seems that the problem is that the system commit keeps growing i get the crash when its about 32GB. the moment i get the error the commit drops instantly
