"Your computer is low on memory" when its clearly not

This problem started when i upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8.1

When i run a game, for example, Arma3 randomly throughout my game i'll be thrown back to windows desktop and presented with a message saying "Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs: 'Game name here'"

As you can see from the above screenshot i have 2.6gb in use and 5.3 free, so why does it think its out of memory?

I have set my pagefile from "system managed" to 16gb initial - 24gb max

This made no difference whatsoever..

My hardware has not changed, Like i said i noticed this almost instantly after upgrading to 8.1

Any help would be appreciated because as far as i'm aware theres no way to revert back to 8 from 8.1?

Thanks Adriaan - I have changed the registry setting and rebooting seems to help.

    Im getting the exact same thing.  ASUS Gryphon MOBO, 8 GB RAM, no apps running when put to sleep but wakes up with low memory error.  Never had a problem on 8.0, only started happening since 8.1.  Love these new improvements` MS includes!!!!!  Hoping there is an easy way to go back to 8.0

    Same problem, W8.1, sometimes low memory and games crashing eg. Battlefield 4, Crysis 3.

    I Have Intel haswell with 8gb ram, 512ssd, Geforce 740m with 2gb dedicated memory.

    I'd like to throw in a "me too". Happens with "Assassin's Creed Black Flag" with less than 4GB out of 8GB RAM in use according to Task Manager and Process Explorer (Game's usage varies, between 600MB and 1,2GB). No issues under Win 7 Ultimate x64.

    Problem behavior ranges from "Your Computer is low on Memory" dialog to App Crash to desktop.

    System:

    • Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center
    • Laptop Fujitsu Lifebook E852 vPro
    • Core i7-3612QM @2.10GHz
    • RAM 8,00 GB (7,85 GB usable)
    • System type 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
    • Gfx: Intel HD4000, no separate Gfx card.
    • 512 GB SSD with >300GB free space.

    All drivers are up-to-date according to Fujitsu's support page.

    I have had the same issue.  Happens on multiple games.  Path of Exile, Metro 2033, Darksiders and a few more.  The message box doesn't kick me out of the game but still bothers me it is popping up when there should be plenty of memory.
