"Your computer is low on memory" when its clearly not

This problem started when i upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8.1

When i run a game, for example, Arma3 randomly throughout my game i'll be thrown back to windows desktop and presented with a message saying "Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs: 'Game name here'"

As you can see from the above screenshot i have 2.6gb in use and 5.3 free, so why does it think its out of memory?

I have set my pagefile from "system managed" to 16gb initial - 24gb max

This made no difference whatsoever..

My hardware has not changed, Like i said i noticed this almost instantly after upgrading to 8.1

Any help would be appreciated because as far as i'm aware theres no way to revert back to 8 from 8.1?

Thanks Adriaan - I have changed the registry setting and rebooting seems to help.

exact same problem with all the games I've installed.

it's clearly a windows 8.1 bug.

Add another "me too". Windows 8.1, random low memory dialogs. I think it does have something to do with the resolution as I get this with Windows Media Center and I believe that scales the screen a bit differently than my native resolution.

I wanted to post here to show that I also get this problem... I find it offensive that Microsoft seems to not even acknowledge this problem. I AM NOT running the game at a different resolution than my desktop, yet when I run it full screen on my TV through hdmi, I get the low memory warning and this usually crashes the game. My specs are as follows:

Sager N8265 Notebook

Intel 4800MQ

240gb SSD

1TB HD

AMD 8970m

Is anyone from Microsoft ever going to respond? Windows 8.1 not letting us play games fullscreen is completely insane, and it NEEDS to be fixed. I payed a lot of money for this OS, yet this problem makes it practically worthless. I can't game on my gaming laptop... This problem is so irritating.

Problem solved:

Formatted HDD, Installed windows 7

Seems like MS either aren't paying attention or don't really care about this issue.

Ever since i began using windows 8 (shortly after release) i've noticed a steady decrease in system performance over time - then came the 8.1 update and the system became almost un-usable (long start-up time/messy explorer layout/random bugs appearing out of nowhere)

I'll stick with 7 from now on - thankfully i bought 8 during their promotional period for £12, i feel sorry for anyone paying full price for this amount of bugs/issues and incompatibility

It seems there are many people experiencing this and similar issues with 8/8.1, and the only replies we ever seem to get from support are "run system maintenance" or "produce a system report" there are no fixes (that i can see) so i strongly recommend, if possible, revert back to windows 7 and stick with it
