"Your computer is low on memory" when its clearly not

This problem started when i upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8.1

When i run a game, for example, Arma3 randomly throughout my game i'll be thrown back to windows desktop and presented with a message saying "Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs: 'Game name here'"

As you can see from the above screenshot i have 2.6gb in use and 5.3 free, so why does it think its out of memory?

I have set my pagefile from "system managed" to 16gb initial - 24gb max

This made no difference whatsoever..

My hardware has not changed, Like i said i noticed this almost instantly after upgrading to 8.1

Any help would be appreciated because as far as i'm aware theres no way to revert back to 8 from 8.1?

Thanks Adriaan - I have changed the registry setting and rebooting seems to help.

This is interesting. I don't use Windows 8 (using Windows 7), but I'm having the same basic problem described in this thread, with the exception of my not using the computer for games, and the addition of this problem also causing random crashing of Firefox and Chrome (both browsers having been running for 2 years without similar problems).

Your mentioning late release video drivers causing the problems ties in with my problems, which started about the same time as my last Windows update (via Microsoft's online update service) and update of my system's video driver files (from Intel's website).

My money is on an Intel driver software glitch. Maybe Intel has jumped on the bandwagon and switched to buck-an-hour third-world software shanties :-)

So for those intrested ive found a solution.

The problem is in the newer version of direct x that is shipped with windows8.1.

Due to some kind of bug it floods the system commit making your computer throw those errors.

a fix for this problem is to use a graphics driver prior to windows8.1 so that it doesnt support the latest version of directx making windows 8.1 unable to force the latest version.

In my case since i have 2 graphics cards(intel hd4000 integrated graphics and a dedicated nvidia one).

it'll do to install an older prior to windows 8.1 driver for the intel hd4000.

im using version 9.17.10.2875 and its working fine now. just dont forget to disable automatic driver updating or windows will keep reinstalling the latest driver.

if youve got a newer intell hd integrated graphics card then i guess youre out of luck for now.

I've also been having this error with a Lenovo t430 8ram, plenty of memory on games such as Lol, state of decay, starcraft 2, hots, diablo 3, and civ 5. my guess is it is a problem with the graphics driver and it started after the 8.1 update. seriously frustrated with windows 8, considering adding to the bad reviews but I am sure that would be redundant.
