Getting error code 0x800701E3 when copying files from laptop to external hard disk

OK, out yesterday...First I am going to cut and paste the issue of file structure to another post/thread..If you can do same so gets replies from you and don"t waste someone elses time with replies.

I am right now so confused in each o f these threads..This issue of the error,s bought another xhdd yesterday (same manufacturer) and tried the system image same error,,so also bought a 128 gb thumb drive formatted to ntfs and tried to run the system image on that and message was The drive is not a valid location..So at this point will run the SFC and see what happens...I am confident that the issue is the pc not the xhdd, but only has a problem with the system image copy paste all is fine..Also yesterday also ran a system image again on desktop and ran clean !!

See besides this thread I am also getting a c++ runtime error on boot up.....So let me ask do u thing running chkdsk will help or is this the same as you had me do a error check on the c drive ??

I am keen to see a screenshot as I think this might all be a mistake.  I think your system might be behaving itself but you have changed a setting controlling how it appears i.e. no files and no folders have disappeared anywhere.

I cannot show you a screenshot that matches what you see because I have deliberately altered the way mine appears.  I think that, in addition to any screenshots you have already decided to post, you should include this one:-

Open File explorer, click on ThisPC on the left-hand side, take a screenshot that shows me both that left-hand side pane & what is showing on the right-hand side.  This is mine but yours will not be the same

Where I have the red arrow pointing, you have [or had] a list - Desktop, Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos.

Where I have drawn a blue loop, you also have [or had] a similar-looking entry above it that also listed the same Desktop, Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos items but the list can be hidden using the dropdown arrow you can see within my blue loop. 

In addition, you can have icons for some or all of those things on your Desktop but it is possible to change a setting to make them disappear.  You can make them reappear by selecting them again in

Control panel,

[View by - Small icons, if necessary to make the Personalisation entry visible],

Personalisation,

[in the upper left] Change desktop icons,

and set the ones you want to see appear on your Desktop.

I believe that is true I don't think what I thought I accidently moved did not..Did some research after I posted to you. Tried to move that app data back and would not let me..Since then rebooted and all seems fine.

Since I do not knpw the best way to explain the file structure other than in win 7 terms. Remember in win 7 had a name for your pc we will call it xxxpc. Then when you opened the window in the lower left, still in win 7 terminology, at the top was xxxpc opened that folder and in it was folders, downloads,music videos,pictures..etc..then below that screen was public documents..Still ther in win 10 on desktop..but gone in pc. Now open that folder.only was to get to it is c->.Users->and there is xxxpc but the file name is not the same as the name on pc and cannot rename. Also this is no longer on the desktop(I realize that I can drag to desk top and create a short cut), but only way to get to it is thr the c drive,,In short appears the pc does not recognize the file and its defaults any longer, appears the users file no longer exists.....under destop it no longer exist...Basically the default pc name-file folder for all the defaults of music,favorites,downloads,videos..etc don't exist.

Data used to go to these defaults now I have to tell it where to go, so for now created a desktop folder till can get this default back..

How post a screen print on here have tried snippet and copy and paste..

Your own files are all within subfolders of C:\Users*Y* ourUserName.  They are in

• C:\Users*Y* ourUserName\Documents
• C:\Users*Y* ourUserName\Desktop
• C:\Users*Y* ourUserName\Music
• C:\Users*Y* ourUserName\Pictures
• C:\Users*Y* ourUserName\Videos}.

That is where they have always been.

File explorer can show you those folders in what it thinks is a more convenient manner where they are the first things under the computer name but that is simply a means of presentation - the files are still in C:\Users*Y* ourUserName... all the time.  It is possible to turn off this way of displaying them and that might be all that you have done.

• It's the diagram that has the bits concerned highlighted in yellow.
• Underneath that are a pair of diagrams showing what File explorer looks like if you change a setting.

Have you changed that setting and are merely confused by the difference in presentation?
