Error Code Ox80070057

I am running XP SP3, and when I go to the Windows update site and check for express updates, the green progress bard starts and just keeps going with no end result. I downloaded the Fixit Tool and it quoted the error code as above. How can I rectify this please?

    I just went through the whole process again, and BITS has now disappeared. Unbelievable!

    1 Vipre has been on the system since day 1

    1. Nothing was on there before
    2. Yes.
    3. Yes.

    Look, this problem has only occurred during the last month, before that the updates were working perfectly, so i can't understand why this has happened on all my computers. Anyway, I have to have a break from it for now. It's 10:15 pm here, so I'll leave it till tomorow now. Thanks for the help.

    Yes, I did change it, tried it again and it's still hanging.

    1. How long has Vipre Internet Security (any version) been installed?
    2. What anti-virus application or security suite was installed BEFORE you first installed the Vipre application?
    3. Did you (a) uninstall the McAfee free-trialware AND THEN (b) download/run the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool & reboot (c) BEFORE you installed any other anti-virus application/security suite?
    • Fact: McAfee (and Norton) applications are notorious for not uninstalling (or upgrading) cleanly. The "leftovers" may be your troublemaker here.

    I copied and pasted the command into Run, and it opened up the Files Needed box, I clicked ok, another box came up with "copying files" and it's just hanging there.

    In the Files needed box, did you change the path to C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386?

    It says something else by default. If you don't change it, then yes, it will hang
