Error code 8024A008 when trying to check for updates

Hey, I just upgraded my computer from windows 8 to windows 8.1. After the installation I tried to run the Windows update and after sever minutes of checking for updates the following error occurred "8024A008".  I tried several methods to solve this, first of all I restarted the computer but nothing changed, then I ran the "Windows Update Diagnostic" tool with no luck either. I'd appreciate any advice on how to solve this problem. Thanks a lot!

1.)  Copy the whole module folder (after unzipping) to %WINDIR%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules

2.) Start up PowerShell ISE as admin from admin tools

3.) Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned

4.) Import-Module PSWindowsUpdate

5.) Get-WUInstall

6.) The rest should be automated with some prompts

After Reboot

follow the instructions to run the PowerShell script and it will force a Windows Update. Make sure you follow the instructions in the second relevant post:

This is a great solution! I just tested it and I only had one small issue. "Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned" was not sufficient in my case because the files were flagged as coming from another computer and were blocked when trying to import the module. Simple solution: copy the zip file locally and unblock the zip file BEFORE extracting the files, otherwise you have to unblock the files one by one. You can do that in the properties dialog of the file. You can also use "Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted" but I do not suggest doing this.

If you want to execute without prompts, maybe to automate the process, you can execute:

Get-WUInstall -AcceptAll -IgnoreReboot

So great work by these Guys and a big thumbs down to Microsoft. I have run it successfully and it download 39 updates (including Office).

    I've been doing my manual update yesterday in PowerShell as I was doing for the last 2 years and it asked me about updating for Win 10. I said yes but it said failed.

    Then in the end it said restart needed but when I'm restarting it keep saying restart to finish the update. No matter how many times I restart it keeps saying the same thing.

    In addition I have a popup window saying "you Win 10 update is ready to install" but when I click "start the upgrade" it just restarts the computer and end up in the same place.

    So now I have messages "restart needed", a popup to "update", but nothing is working.

    Does anyone else having this?

    When Windows 10 1st came out, in the last few weeks. Windows 10 requires automatic updates your choices are very limited to shut them down. Some systems didn't take the update, so when it restarts it trys to reinstall the update, causing a vicious cycle of install, restart, install :( On the 12th or 13th of August this has now been fixed with other updates. hope this helps

    Hi there,

    I have found a much simpler way to ensure that your updates will work now and automatically in the future.

    The workaround with PowerShell, although excellent does not rectify the problem of not being able to use the service provided by Microsoft namely Windows Update.

    Your system unfortunately is stuck in the OOBE stage of installation.

    To force it out of OOBE navigate to C:\windows\system32\oobe

    Then double click on windeploy.exe, oobeldr.exe and msoobe.exe.

    The finalizing your setting screen should appear.

    Once it has completed reboot  and check windows is activated.

    Then resume updates through control panel, Windows Updates.
