    Hi all ill people and doctors

    I spent 3 days to reinstall a friend's Win7 Pro 32bits SP1 with all it's software and data, and tuning that all to give him back a machine that will hopefully work [dream]fine for the 10 next years[/dream].

    Can I give him back his machine with the only pending (throttled?) kb2862330 remaining showed in WindowsUpdate, running the risk he forces the installation and break all my huge job?

    I understood that hiding the patch is not a best practice.

    All other kb are installed, so also kb2533552.

    I find 2 controlers, one is usbehci.sys when the other is usbohci.sys, both using shared usbport.sys and usbhub.sys.

    Displaying devmgmt.msc "Devices per connections" I dug to see the only USB end devices are the mouse (ohci) and 4 empty card readers (ehci).

    Keyboard is PS2. I have a spare PS2 mouse in the drawer I can use.

    If I use the PS2 mouse for the update AND disable both controllers AND Avast "Forever" before, is there any waranty I won't break my job myself?

    Hi, PA Bear,

    Here's what worked for me (XP SP3, Me Upgrade Desktop): After performing the procedure you documented earlier I managed to generate a 0x80246008 error code and proceeded with the archived process for correcting whatever registry issues (mind you, I'm stilll not conversant in these things) were preventing installation of the update, a process which included execution of the appropriate 'Fix It' solution for this error code. The (Fix It) solution corrected all but two problems which referenced an unfixable "corruption" of a (not specific) registry item. I then carried out a System Restore adjustment to 10/3/2013 (about two weeks prior to my noting the update's chronic failure to install), ran an MS update review through the website, then successfully installed KB2862330 along with KB2890788 and several other Office 2010-associated updates...

    Yes, that is the key to solving the problem; to find the specific driver that's conflicting with KB2862330, and disabling it temporarily before installing KB2862330.  In my case it was hcmon.sys, a VMware USB driver.
