Hi Susan :(
I followed the links that you provided to Version 2, downloaded, attempted to install, and when the computer restarted automatically the process stalled at 32% as with Version 1 of the update released last October. After about 30 minutes I forced the computer
to shut down. When I attempted to boot in safe mode, the computer stalled with a message that installation of the update had failed and the system was reverting. However, this message hung for approx. one hour. I phoned Microsoft Australia and the technician
was very helpful, and willing to help me reinstall Windows using my disk. However, he suggested one more attempt to boot in safe mode and it worked! I performed a successful system restore. The technician offered to help me try to reinstall the update again,
but I have hidden it as I did back in October upon encountering the same problem and reading this and other forums.
So 'Version 2' is not at all safe for some users! Your quote from the blog appears to have been neglectful, considering all of the problems caused in the past and persisting with the 'Re-offering'! You should not be suggesting unsafe downloads without testing.
Now that my system is well again and the dangerous Microsoft update hidden, I am not willing to be a guinea pig and test fate again with you or other Microsoft representatives! I am just posting here to warn others to keep KB2862330 hidden!
My system: Windows 7 x 64 Home Premium Service Pack 1, fully updated, latest Avast Free, Malwarebytes, Firefox 26, Office 2007, Gigabyte H77 motherboard, nVidia GTX 650 with latest 332.21 drivers, Intel i7 3770k CPU, 16 GB 1600 mHZ DDR3 RAM, 2x1TB Seagate HDDs.
- Please confirm that you have read this posting. I told the technician about the links to the unsafe file. - Regards, Phil
