Update KB2862330 repeatedly fails to install on Windows 7.

Thanks Greg - and Josagan - for your suggestion. It does sound as if the update can be safely installed when all USB devices have been unplugged first.
I'm not willing to risk it though because individual configurations might have a bearing, and I've wasted a lot of time in October and in the last few days on the irresponsible update.
As unplugging USB devices prior to installation sounds so credible and logical, why aren't Microsoft testing the solution on some machines of their own?
When is Microsoft going to take full responsibility for the time and expense wasted by its customers with dangerous updates.
If Greg's and Josagan's solution is confirmed, why aren't Microsoft offering the update with bold instructions to unplug USB devices before installation? - That is, NOT allowing auto-updates for this software!!
Volunteer Susan Bradley should not be landed with problems inflicted by Microsoft, but I will email Susan so that she can open another case and hopefully provoke some responsibility without further delay!!! - Phil
Same here. I've had automatic updates turned off since this cockup update was crashing my PC last fall. I did manage to finally get it installed via MS tech support (provided free by Susan Bradley) Today, I rather carelessly installed updates without noticing this POS was in the que again. Same thing, crashing on 32%.
Fortunately I was able to resolve it rather easily this time. I just unplugged all of the USB connections from the back of the PC and then rebooted. Windows loaded and configured without issue then I one by one reconnected the USB cables, there was some delay while drivers loaded but it is up an running now without apparent issues. Good luck.
Same problem here. My computer (AMD based win7 X64) was rebooting after installing the updates from jan 15 and got stuck at the 32% message i immedeately recognised from last october...... Rebooting twice in safe mode which prompted me with an "update config error, reverting system back...." made my computer up and running again. Not happy, disabled auto-updates now. Again, update kb2862330 caused the problem......
At the office, one of our Intel based HP workstations: the very same problem. Nice way of starting the day.
Microsoft cannot fix what they can't understand. The only way to give it priority is to have me help you help them by opening up a case.
Please Maggie, email me at susan-at-msmvps.com (change the -at- to @) and I can open up a support case. Without it, this issue will not be fixed.
