Typically $RECYCLE.BIN is for recycle bin allocation form your hard disk partition. and  System Volume Information bears the useful info regarding your volume.

These things are shown because hide protected system files tick is removed

Cant say it a virus effect or not..

If you feel like infected, much better to take the assistance of antivirus software

Download hitman pro 3.7**(shareware and can be activated for 30 days free)**and have a full system scan.. http://www.surfright.nl/en

And/or

use malwarebyte have a full system scan http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

After verifying , you can just make them invisible by doing this...

Note:- Optional/additional info -----(You DON'T have to run below to fix the problem )

Any folder and its content can be made shown as a recycle bin using a desktop.ini

Normally within this desktop.ini u can see.

[.ShellClassInfo]

CLSID={645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-8964

open a command prompt run as administrator

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc947813%28v=ws.10%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

    I have had the 'show hidden files' and some other setting set to on for years without problems. What are the ADVANTAGES to having the folder options set to the default/restore?

    Factory default settings | setting that comes with new windows are, with that option enabled.. unless, if someone alters and set to show the hidden files and folders, ..

    Because some files/folders should be kept as it is .. To avoid accidental deletion of system files etc.. Besides, there is no special advantage/reason you can get by seeing these folders...

    Please clarify something. Will setting the 'folder options' to the 'default settings' prevent malware  from hiding their malicious files in the System Volume Information? I had a trojan attack a few months ago that ran up the System Volume Information to a staggering amount in just one file. After help from the internet I was able to determine this was just junk and erased it and defragged the drive.

    Have recently had problems with the "update Java" malicious software showing up on email homepage. Took some effort to get rid of this and sometimes still get that same damn message showing. I changed my homepage to the generic version and in my Firefox settings. Thru malwarebytes site they helped with their free Malwarebytes scan, HitmanPro and AdwCleaner free scans. I use AVG free anti-virus and it can miss some sneaky malware.

    Warning to Firefox users, do NOT use the Junkware Removal Tool recommended on some sites, it deletes your profile "user.js" that has all your "preferences" (luckily I was able to restore from a backup file). This is launched thru a command prompt and doesn't allow you chose what files to delete, it just deletes anything it found without warning. Dangerous tool, this is for PROs only!

    No need of commands. Just restoring settings Is enough. Yes its meant to hide by default.

    Sir i m following your post but it is not working. whenever i hit enter after typing the command on command prompt it gives me an error that '-a' is not recognized as internal or external command.

    In Addition, if i perform the task as described in pictorial view, the default setting restore and the recycler.bin folder hides instead of removing/deleting. Is it suppose to be hidden or removed??

    Sir i will be thankful to you if you solve my problem. waiting for your positive reply.
