'October 2013 Update For Root Certificate for Windows XP ' KB 931125 Installed

Does anyone know why this old 'Nov 2013 Update For Windows XP Update' (KB931125) from 4 months ago would be offered again in Mar?

No other 'old' Root Certificate updates have been offered through the 'Custom' scan option since this one was offered.

Automatic Updates is deliberately disabled as a result of the BITS-related issue so I manually scan for all 'Express' and 'Custom' updates regularly.

Maybe we'd both know if you were able to fix the BITS-related issue?

Note the every Root Certificates update is KB931125 (e.g., the Nov-13 update and the Mar-14 update). There's really no way of knowing which release of KB931125 is installed (unless it's offered when you run a CUSTOM scan for updates).

Yes, the BITS-related issue was resolved and I am aware that every Root Certificate Update has the same KB number.

When I ran a custom scan earlier this month (Mar), it offered the 'Nov 2013 Update For Windows XP Update' so I knew that it was the 'same' update for Nov 13 and not a 'new' update for Mar 14.

I can only think that the Nov 2013 update did not install properly (which is why it was offered again) but it does not explain why it was offered 4 months later  (as opposed to being offered during the next set of updates in Dec).

    • Since the BITS-related issue has been resolved, you can "control what updates are downloaded and installed" by enabling Automatic Updates and then selecting the "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them" option. After doing so, you will be prompted to Approve which updates are download, which updates are installed as well as when they're installed...at least until 08 April 2014 => http://blogs.technet.com/b/security/archive/2013/08/15/the-risk-of-running-windows-xp-after-support-ends.aspx

    • Root Certificates updates are cumulative; i.e., if the March 2014 update was already installed, the November 2013 update would not have been offered by Windows Update. That being said, you may wish to see if you can install the March 2014 update manually (Validation Required) => http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42092

    • Has Microsoft Security Essentials v4.5.216.0 been offered & installed via Windows Update yet?

Here is what I can tell you:

I checked the Windows Update History and the 'Mar 2014 Root Certificate Update For Windows XP' (KB 931125) 'was' installed on Mar 11 so I do not know why the Nov 2013 Root Certificate update was offered on Mar 17-It has not been offered again since Mar 17 though.
