Yes, the orange oblong orange button 'view' is the default- I clicked a blank part of the Tab bar and clicked 'Menu and 'File, Edit, View, History' text links disappeared-Is this what you meant by' text links?' I pressed ALT and the 'File, Edit, View, History, etc' 'text links' appeared but then disappeared when another key/mouse was pressed/clicked. Clicking 'Menu bar' again went back to the default setting.

Is that what you were referring to? I had never played around with this option before so I had no idea what you were talking about. I also did not know what you meant by 'oblong'-Oblong is a rectangle and the Firefox icon is an orange and blue globe.

If turning it off is 'safer, 'should all 3 modem connections still be left plugged in and will the computer still be 'connected' to the Internet by leaving the connections plugged in?

By unchecking clearing cookies on exit in the submenu, I assume you mean 'Privacy, History, Settings' and uncheck 'Cookies' under History-It is not worded as 'clearing Cookies on exit' but as 'When I quit Firefox it should automatically clear-Cookies.'

Just shutdown the PC. Thst's all you need to do.

To see the view with the oblong, orange button, right click a blank part of the Tab bar and click "Menu" bar. You'll see then that there aren't any text links. If you hit ALT with that view, the text links will appear. Click "Menu bar" again to go back to the view you have now.

Click the "Help" button bottom right in each of the Options menus to see what the settings do. Much better that you get into the habit of helping yourself rather than relying on other people all the time.

If something's not working, or your machine is infected with a virus or something, we can help out with that, but for the rest, I'm sure you're quite capable to using a search engine to find the answers to what happens to your computer when you unplug the power cable.

Why is it odd!?

I am in Canada and our modems are black boxes that have 3 ports at the back (To connect to the power supply, to connect to the wall outlet, and to connect to the computer's ethernet port) and there are green buttons on the front.

After XP Support ends, even though you recommend not unplugging anything and leaving the cable modem on, is the computer still connected to the Internet when the computer is shut down and should it be left on or turned off? 

PA Bear seems to state that the modem 'is' still connected even when the computer is turned off but above you stated that the modem is no longer connected-Which is it?

It's odd because in Europe, we do things differently. A PC doesn't take it's power from a modem and receives it independently by plugging it directly into a wall socket, or an extension.

The computer will be off if you click "Shutdown" from the Windows Shutdown menu. You can always check the fans if you think that's not the case. If they're still running ten minutes after you clicked "Shutdown", then the computer is still turned on even though the screen might be black.

Be aware though that some power supplies retain a charge for two minutes after you shutdown to provide power to the fans to cool down components before shutting down completely.
