Sorry, but that's incorrect.

The penultimate Root Certificates update was released on 12 November 2013. The most recent Root Certificates update was released on 11 March 2014. [As usual, for some unknown reason, KB931125 references the penultimate Nov-13 update while the file from the Download Center references the Mar-14 update.]

FWIW I fired up my ol' WinXP box earlier this month and the Mar-14 Root Certificates was offered when I ran a CUSTOM scan for updates. [In Vista, Win7 & Win8, Root Certificates update are silently/automatically installed when they're released.]

I checked the Windows Update History and there was a 'Mar 2014 Root Certificate Update For Windows XP' (KB 931125) that 'was' installed on Mar 11 so I do not know why the Nov 2013 Root Certificate update was offered 'again' on Mar 17-It has not been offered again since Mar 17 though.

I bought a Windows 8.0 laptop and then upgraded to 8.1 so you won't see me in the XP forums very much anymore.

That was also necessary because my bank will block access to users running Windows XP from April 8 which would mean I wouldn't be able to use Internet banking anymore.

As regards your question re: Root Certificates updates for XP, these maintain the same KB number throughout the lifecycle of the operating system so you'll always see it displayed as KB931125.

Automatic Updates is deliberately disabled as a result of the BITS-related issue-I prefer to manually control what updates are downloaded and installed.

    • Since the BITS-related issue has been resolved, you can "control what updates are downloaded and installed" by enabling Automatic Updates and then selecting the "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them" option. After doing so, you will be prompted to Approve which updates are download, which updates are installed as well as when they're installed...at least until 08 April 2014 => http://blogs.technet.com/b/security/archive/2013/08/15/the-risk-of-running-windows-xp-after-support-ends.aspx

    • Root Certificates updates are cumulative; i.e., if the March 2014 update was already installed, the November 2013 update would not have been offered by Windows Update. That being said, you may wish to see if you can install the March 2014 update manually (Validation Required) => http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42092

    • Has Microsoft Security Essentials v4.5.216.0 been offered & installed via Windows Update yet?
