Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

It is a forum that Microsoft created so users can help out. They do monitor the forum and if it is an issue they caused they will fix it as fast as possible. However the update also includes software from the manufactures and that is most likely what broke it. Or a change in security protocols. Unfortunately there are tons of wireless adapters and routers and ISP combinations and Microsoft can't make fixes for all of them. I believe there are over a million pieces of hardware that work with Windows . That is why its the responsibility of the manufactures to maintain thief products. Good Luck hope you get connected. BTW are you able to connect to some networks or none at all.

I can connect to all networks. The connection drops after about 5 to 10 minutes.

Using the Nokia phone as a wireless device (modem) works.

Changing the SSID didn´t work (unfortunately)

Could be your virus protection disable it to see if it works. If it does use Windows Defender instead. Also try booting in safe mode with networking and safe mode to see if it makes a difference. You can also go to network manager and then double click the wireless adapter select drivers tab then driver details and try selecting the Microsoft version of the driver or another one that maybe available. If it is still an issue open a thread of your own as similar problems can have different solutions and you will get more helps that way. Open a command window then connect to the wireless network that has an issue. While its connected type ipconfig in the cmd window and copy those results. The when it drops do it again to see if it differs. You can probably just copy the second one and it will have both but better safe than sorry. I SOLVED IT!!

I have HP Pavillion TouchSmart 14 PC which has Intel wireless driver and my modem/router is Cisco. 

My connection was also dropping to limited connection and I tried everything else on the web (updating drivers, resetting modem, power settings,... etc) but none of them has worked until I disable my bluetooth driver!

Most probably there is an interference between wireless driver and bluetooth driver which is cannot be solved even the last version of driver software.

Before I disable my bluetooth driver, I encounter "limited connection problem" every 10 minutes and the only solution was resetting the computer which was annoying me. I prefer to use my cell phone to surf in the internet, but after I disable my bluetooth driver I have not encountered any limited connection problem for 2 WEEKS!!

If you want to disable your bluetooth on windows 8.1, click start and type "bluetooth" and click bluetooth settings on the search pane. In bluetooth settings window, turn the setting to off.

You again! I'm not sure why you respond like this. The problem arose when Microsoft published 8.1 - or after a subsequent fix. Therefore, although it may be the driver suppliers' job to accommodate that by updating their drivers, the root is cause is something Microsoft did - since it happened on a large range of machines, with different drivers. There are 46 pages of reports and not everybody is an idiot.

I really think it would have been useful for Microsoft to investigate this problem themselves instead of offering sanctimonious advice about contacting ISPs and blaming people's router setup.

Mine did start working with a later release of the Sony driver, by the way - but not immediately, which leads me to suspect that another Microsoft fix came down in the meantime.
