Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

Since installing 8.1 Pro, I'm having issues with WiFi dropping internet connectivity and always showing "Limited" when clicking on the system tray icon.  When I troubleshoot the problem using the system tool it is always the gateway that is faulty.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled the device drivers several times, installed the newest drivers directly from Intel, restarted the computer, etc.  I can restore connectivity by turning WiFi off then back on, but the connection will drop at what seems to be random intervals.  My applicable system specs are as follows;

Lenovo Y510P  Laptop

Windows 8.1 Pro

Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230

Apple Time Capsule router w/newest firmware

Needless to say this is quite an irritating bug that didn't exist prior to the update to 8.1  I hope this can be resolved quickly. Thanks!

I tried the first one just searching for the words Diagnostic Policy Service. Nothing happened at all apart from telling me there were no connection. I tried a few times. I assume your method is just do Windowskey+Q and search for anything and the search action helps. But it did not unfortunately.

Your other method I tried and did not get response there either, - but only once. I will try that one again a few times.

We all want it to work, but it is frustrating it does not work. If a person with the knowledge looked at it then there would be a solution in an hour.

Then I have tested the other method. No success - it did not connect to anything and came with error message Code 80072EFD and the connection still stayed deconnected.

I have made two changes my desktop and it seems to have addressed the problem.  I don't know for how long but it works

    1. I have disabled the TCP/IPv6 within the Ethernet Properties.
    2. When I loose the network, I noticed that several Services have stopped.   I looked into the event logger and it indicated that the "Base Filtering Service" had stopped.  I just run it again and I got back the internet connection

I dont' think it is required to do step 1.  I just thought I should.  I have no use for it for now.

Give it a try.  I hope this works better.

Is this a Microsoft problem?  I still think it is.

Thank you for the reply. I am happy that this solution worked for you and the people in your office. As much as I would like to try it, I am unable to use this method. I do not have access to download software from Cisco as I do not currently pay for any of their services. I am looking for a free solution to solve this problem. However I have to agree with you on the dumb move by MS on this one...

Not a fix but a workaround.

Create a new text file and rename the extension to .bat or .cmd. For example, filename.txt to filename**.cmd** or filename**.bat**

Open the file in Notepad and copy the syntax below. Where name="enter your Wifi network name"

    netsh wlan disconnect

    netsh wlan connect name="myWifi"

Save it to your desktop or if it is in another folder create a shortcut to it. Double-click anytime you have this issue to reconnect quickly.
