Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

For my Dell Latitude E6520 the dell web site had the following. I have done this and so far I am not dropping any more. I have an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 minicard. The image was not the same for the updated driver install but basically I did not reinstall the proset software.

I had the same intermittent WIFI connectivity issue with my year-old Toshiba Satellite after updating to Win 8.1 about two weeks ago. No problems prior to that.

I rolled back to Win 8.0 and now, once more, have no more problems. It'd be nice if MS actually addressed the issue, rather than their customers having to find a work-around.

I'm thinking the best long-term solution (and I've been pushing back at my kid's suggestions for years) is to go Apple.

Hi, I´m having the same problem.

I have tried both methods and none seem to work.

Internet works temporarily when I´m connected via ethernet cable and for shorter periods of time (5 min of less) when I´m lucky enough via wi-fi.

This is very annoying. Android phone, macbook and ipad all work perfectly via wifi in the same networks my lenovo ultrabook with windows 8.1 (which I recently bought) does not work.

Please provide a definite fix for this.

Hi, I have an old PC that has been upgraded and built by myself. Used cable connection most of the time. We have a terrible internet connection speed so now we have gotten 4G!! The Huawei E5776, Works like a beauty for 10 minutes and sleeps for 6 minutes and this cycle is repeated over and over again -and that is the problem as many of you experience. I have looked a bit at it the last few days. So a few observations: Other laptops on XP works. But curiously enough when my laptop is connected (XP) and then I connect my Win8.1 PC then this takes over and my laptop also stops when my PC stops. I have also found out that if have a Skype conversation going and it stops then my Skype continues for hours if I want. No problem at all. But you cannot start a conversation. If I watch webTV then this will keep on going live even if my connection stops! So the connection is up and going for most, but there are parts of the communication that is breaking down at regular intervals. I also have found a perfect program to monitor the problems: Java has made a program called Internet Connectivity Monitor and current version is 1.41. https://code.google.com/p/internetconnectivitymonitor/ This program connects to an URL like google.com every 5 seconds and reports connection or not. You can save results to a log. I monitor that and I see it flipped out again 31 seconds ago. So then I go and reboot my Huawei modem. And 15 second pass and signal is OK again. It a bit cumbersome, but at least I am up most of the time. The problem is to remember to reboot just in time if you are doing something important:-) I have also downloaded a few things from the net. If I download and restart in Chrome or other it wil stop and I have to redo. You download using Mjutorrent then it just stops and continues after a reboot. So these points are important and a person who knows about this communication should probably be able to identify the problem. Maybe even be able to make a small program bit that could run and prevent this blockout. If that is possible we have solved the issue and one day Microcrap has also found the problem and made a fix for it. I must say that I am amazed how bad the wireless connection part of Win8 is. It is disgusting and on the same level as the missing Start menus. Someone in Redmond must have smoked something that is illegal most places with Win8. Stability and many other issues are good, - but it is a joke to set up a new Wifi!! It works great in XP and similar in all Apple products like iPad, iPhone, etc. But something has really gone wrong in Redmond I can tell. I am also impressed that they do not listen to their clients. Everyone will have the Start menu back. Everyone wants easy connection to wifi's. Maybe they should set up a group of users who actually are users. And do not use the same guys who has written this ****! So I am OK with the intermittent signal since this is my home office PC. I suffer and I am not happy, but if I had to use a laptop with these problems then I would have walked into the nearest Apple shop and never have looked at a Windows operated laptop again.

run command prompt as administrator:

type:  netsh winsock reset  and then ENTER

Restart pc / laptop and all your problems are past.
