Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

Since installing 8.1 Pro, I'm having issues with WiFi dropping internet connectivity and always showing "Limited" when clicking on the system tray icon.  When I troubleshoot the problem using the system tool it is always the gateway that is faulty.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled the device drivers several times, installed the newest drivers directly from Intel, restarted the computer, etc.  I can restore connectivity by turning WiFi off then back on, but the connection will drop at what seems to be random intervals.  My applicable system specs are as follows;

Lenovo Y510P  Laptop

Windows 8.1 Pro

Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230

Apple Time Capsule router w/newest firmware

Needless to say this is quite an irritating bug that didn't exist prior to the update to 8.1  I hope this can be resolved quickly. Thanks!

    Hey try this.   My Dell Venue refused to connect to certain routers but would connect to others.   It appears that Win 8.1 wifi settings get saved to the cloud.   I had to go to settings/accounts and disconnect the logged in account and go local login.  I worked like magic for me.   Hope this helps others.

    Actually, I do think this issue has something to do with the cloud account. I only had a local account at first, and had many problems. As soon as I switched to a cloud account, the problems disappeared for a couple of days. I had to sign up for a cloud account for the purpose of the microsoft store.

    But a couple of days later, the problems reappeared, now with a vengence. The wifi problem is now even worse. It now will work for a couple of seconds, and not work for 30-45 seconds, maybe 1-2 minutes. And then work for 5 seconds, and not for another minute.

    For those unfortunate Windows 8.1 users suffering WiFi problems, of which I was one, the only solution I have is for HP Computer users. I had another problem of a different nature with my HP Envy DV7 which necessitated a factory install. Having contacted HP UK direct, from where I purchased the machine, this was advised as my solution. The Good news is that HP Reinstalls revert back to Windows 8, as HP does not recognize 8.1 as an operation system, Hey Presto now WiFi problems have disappeared and seems we are back to normal, pre Windows8.1. I have No intention of upgrading either, at least until Microsoft has resolved the situation.

    Had problem on asus T100TA after windows update installed a new Broadcom Wifi driver.

    Wifi would have limited connectivity after wake up on battery.

    Rollback to Asus installed driver improved situation, but it will probably require changing the Wireless DC power setting to Maximum Performance to fix completely.

    This tab is missing from the adapter properties, but can be changed from powercfg command line.

    This is described somewhere in Windows 7 support.
