Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

Since installing 8.1 Pro, I'm having issues with WiFi dropping internet connectivity and always showing "Limited" when clicking on the system tray icon.  When I troubleshoot the problem using the system tool it is always the gateway that is faulty.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled the device drivers several times, installed the newest drivers directly from Intel, restarted the computer, etc.  I can restore connectivity by turning WiFi off then back on, but the connection will drop at what seems to be random intervals.  My applicable system specs are as follows;

Lenovo Y510P  Laptop

Windows 8.1 Pro

Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230

Apple Time Capsule router w/newest firmware

Needless to say this is quite an irritating bug that didn't exist prior to the update to 8.1  I hope this can be resolved quickly. Thanks!

    Thanks this has been a really useful thread - trying to solve the same issue since upgrading to 8.1 on my dell venue 8.

    In addition something I think Microsoft need to look at based on my investigations:

    -my router is dual 2.5 and 5 GHz, when turning off the 5ghz my wireless was completely fine on the venue - seems like the smart wireless confused the connection.

    manually setting a dns entry is a great workaround but like you say it will have to change each time you move to a new connection.

    I couldn't agree more. While struggling after the 8.1 upgrade, I have now bought a new Asus AC router and a new Intel AC network card for my laptop. I have been struggling the past few weeks in order to dig up a fix for my wireless connection problems as described here, but found nothing that really has helped. No other device in my house seems to have such problems, so no way, dear support people - this has to be related to the "upgrade" from Win 8.0 to Win 8.1 that rendered my laptop almost useless. My motivation for companionship to continue struggling with wintel after a couple of decades as an engineer - is now as low as it has ever been :-( If a fix came along, it may help a little, but this is just sad, you MS guys...

    Hi,

    I had similar problems and I think I fixed it now.

    method 2 worked for me. It makes sure that your wifi adapter always runs at high performance.

    I hope this helped!
