Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

Sounds good. This question has so many suggestions and half of them are useless and may actually cause issues. It is best to open a new thread. That way people helping have a better idea of what has been done.

Google chrome is pretty bad in general. They open a new instance of chrome for each tab and they end up using way to much memory. IE is actually more secure. It is a little technical why but they have some better protection for XSS attacks as well as a new feature rolled out last July and August that protects the pieces of memory that are waiting to be garbage collected (since memory items don't delete when you are done they are still present until that memory space is needed which is in short garbage collecting)

But that is sometime a personal preference. You can read more about security in the IBM security intelligence web site.

Wouldn't it be easier and easier to just use the device manager?

Most likely the network driver wouldn't show as it is most likely a in the box driver. Although that is a great way to look and see if non certified 8.1 driver was installed.

On a side note to everyone. It is best to let windows update handle all updates. The updates that come in through windows update are not always the most current driver released. That is eiter because even though there is a new driver it wasn't certified yet or it is known to cause a conflict with something unique to your system.

Windows update checks your system and the services running prior to getting packages. If it sees a conflict it won't deliver some drivers. There are exceptions, such as my graphics card is a unique one that isn't common and Windows update won't ever get an update sent to it from the manufacture.

But the safest way to get any update is through Windows update since it has a higher security then one that is downloaded from a non secure site. Not saying that all sites that aren't Microsoft are not secure but the chances that a Windows update server will suffer from a DNS hijack are pretty much 0 since that is highly monitored during update periods

Sory but IE does not support BT audio and communication devices.

BT audio drivers and the end Bt audio device are supported in Chrome.

The practice of "Chrome" works like Skype.

Audio device.

Communication device.

Supported open close file , next ,back , up down sound amplitude in end bt devices.

I should not need to use flash or IE.

If it does not catch BT I just delete cookies/history and running, that's all.

Therefore, only the oryginal R drivers BT and WiFi in the device manager is important.

The application installer or windows update is too stupid for that

Not sure what you mean. You can use Bluetooth audio in Internet explorer. You don't need Flash for IE (flash is built in to IE to prevent security and performance issues that come native with flash)

Not sure what you meant about the cookies/history maybe you can expand on that in a discussion since it is unrelated to this topic.

I can pickup a Skype or Lync call with Bluetooth. However I wouldn't use a browser app for Skype on Windows 8.1 since the Skype metro app is way more handy and the desktop app is better for certain things.

This is horrible response and I've seen it given by other MS engineers. Thousands of people are having this problem since the 8.1 release. I highly doubt all of us had our routers go bad at the same time. Own up to this Microsoft and please fix it. The standard response will not cut it anymore.

I couldn't agree more!!  We have four computers in the house and only my BRAND NEW desktop is having this problem since I upgraded to 8.1.  I should have left well enough alone!!  Fix it PLEASE it is REALLY annoying!

On Windows 7 PC Desktop Internet Access indicator (right-corner status bar) was always showing max output.  On Windows 8.1 PC, this indicator changes from one away from max to average, but never full.  Modem, Router, Internet Access are the same for both two computers, and a Kindle Fire in the home. 

MS should investigate and release an Internet Stability Update for Wireless Networks, ASAP!
