Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

The issue isn't with Windows 8.1 because it doesn't handle that. The DHCP to get an IP is between the wireless driver and the router. I would go through this http://www.vindamedia.com/windows/help/troubleshooting-your-network

If you can get it on the internet with a Ethernet DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth will work well. If not add /limitaccess to the end of that and use SFC/scannow.

Log out of your account and restart.

Can you explain how to do this in a little more detail. It is only some hotspots I cannot connect to. I can connect using my phone as a hotspot.

There are a few other methods too. That one is about halfway down. If you are having issues with the network work top down on that page. If you power cycle the router and modem and get limited - no internet connection that means you can connect to the network via the router but your access outside of the local area network is active but the wide area (internet) is not working. If it is just limited it means you can't connect to the network at all.

Since installing 8.1 Pro, I'm having issues with WiFi dropping internet connectivity and always showing "Limited" when clicking on the system tray icon.  When I troubleshoot the problem using the system tool it is always the gateway that is faulty.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled the device drivers several times, installed the newest drivers directly from Intel, restarted the computer, etc.  I can restore connectivity by turning WiFi off then back on, but the connection will drop at what seems to be random intervals.  My applicable system specs are as follows;

Lenovo Y510P  Laptop

Windows 8.1 Pro

Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230

Apple Time Capsule router w/newest firmware

Needless to say this is quite an irritating bug that didn't exist prior to the update to 8.1  I hope this can be resolved quickly. Thanks!

I am having this problem also.  Windows 8.1 worked fine with my Linksys 'N' Router. But I upgraded to Linksys AC version.  It said all was working and installed correctly but I no longer could connect to the Internet wirelessly and I am handicapped and this is a great hardship for me.  I tried everything possible in instructions given when finally a window message appeared on my screen which told me that Windows 8.1 had problems incompatible.  I went on line to Microsoft and received a response of how to adjust settings when the internet connection is 'limited'.  It helped but did not remedy the problem.  Sometimes wireless works only to be cut-off in the midst of important business.  This is the problem of Windows 8.1  It is incompatable!
