Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

Since installing 8.1 Pro, I'm having issues with WiFi dropping internet connectivity and always showing "Limited" when clicking on the system tray icon.  When I troubleshoot the problem using the system tool it is always the gateway that is faulty.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled the device drivers several times, installed the newest drivers directly from Intel, restarted the computer, etc.  I can restore connectivity by turning WiFi off then back on, but the connection will drop at what seems to be random intervals.  My applicable system specs are as follows;

Lenovo Y510P  Laptop

Windows 8.1 Pro

Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230

Apple Time Capsule router w/newest firmware

Needless to say this is quite an irritating bug that didn't exist prior to the update to 8.1  I hope this can be resolved quickly. Thanks!

    I can now confirm that driver update did not solve the issue but I think I've found the root cause in my case, which seems to be TweetDeck. While TweetDeck is running my wifi connection drops randomly, I just confirmed that a few times quitting TweetDeck and restarting it.

    I had the exact same issues as you got, and after a lot of research i finally got it, just went to the lenovo y510p official site and install newest wifi driver for Windows 8.1 64 bit, and it was solved!! :)

    Finally gave up.

    After months of monitoring this thread, contributing to the discussions myself, and reading everything there was to read about this issue. I decided to try to upgrade to the new Windows 10. When that failed to do anything more than crash at boot, I gave up!

    Windows is a thing of the past. The computer I bought just for Windows 8 is now running Ubuntu.

    Microsoft, you did this to us too many times. Windows 98 was fine. Windows ME was abysmal. Windows XP rocked while Windows Vista couldn't be bothered to work. Windows 7 did the trick, while Windows 8 broke my computers.

    I will not be buying another computer packaged with Windows until the OS is proven to work and tested by industry experts. Until then, Linux is the way to go, with (heaven) Apple products coming in second.

    I'm a technical guy, and people ask me for buying advise on their machines. From here on out, unless they're a gamer or a power user, I'm advising Chrome OS.

    See you in a few years, Microsoft. Or not...

    Chrome OS is a big phone. Windows 10 is pre beta. Its a review for IT pros and not a stable consumer release. None of these problems are windows. Drivers aren't made by windows dev team, rather the vendor of the wireless card. My router was kicking me off every 5 min the other day. After checking everything I took the router out of it case and it works fine. That solves a limited connection issue too. Limited means there is no connection to either to a network or outside of the network to the internet.

    Dan,

    I had the problem earlier and found that lifting the router up a blocks to permit air circulation did the trick. Was that the issue (air flow to keep the router cool) with removing your case, or do you think something else was going on with the encased router?
