Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

For all of you with Intel Wireless adapters.

I ran the utility on this page:-

And for the first time it detected that there was a newer version of my driver.

I have the Intel Centrino wireless-N105 adapter.

I downloaded and clicked on the exe file and within a few seconds the new driver was installed.

Hope I'm not tempting fate but I have not had any dropouts for 4 days either from boot up or from sleep mode.

This driver is not a dedicated Windows 8.1 it says for Windows 8, but its worked for me and I hope it works for all of those with Intel drivers.

The driver covers multiple Intel adapters but the utility will detect the one you have.

Just thought I would re post my solution in case anyone with INTEL adapters may have missed it.

Well.. The current status is that since I uninstalled by the setup the driver, removed the installed driver in the device manager too for the Wifi, rebooted, installed the .279(got it from the Asus Support), but even that this alone didn't helped itself, I also had some updates from MS(they came some days later after I got the driver and around one week from now back) and since installed them, since the 07.02.2014 I haven't drops anymore.. Don't want to paint the devil on the wall, but till now no drops. anymore.. I think for Fyreman907, you could have a hardware fault or just driver fault as the win7 driver for the AR9485 are even there not very know for "stability"...  I think that for most user there is a special mixture of driver fault and OS shits..

Personally I think it's a great shame that Microsoft have lacked giving adequate support and not just put their hands up with this issue rather than people trying different things and ideas and yet it is a Windows 8.1 problem.

I know that various mods and engineers are a great help a lot of the time but at times rather than go through the "try this/try that" script practically saying that it is "your" PC or settings are at fault it would be nice if Microsoft actually admitted that there is an issue their end rather than advising users to just randomly change settings for the sake of it.

I had XP and was more than happy with that however things change and Windows 8 was my next port of call which is an awful OS for a PC user however at least it worked for what I required. To have Windows update constantly advise me to upgrade to 8.1 then spend the next week trying to sort out issues after that install is nothing short of a disgrace quite frankly.   Mind you nothing comes for free so I guess I should have heeded the warning signs right there!!

Considering the lack of support on this **** up the temptation to contact a National newspaper is definitely there and I do wonder if some bad press may get MS to get this sorted.

I am running  AMD Ec-1800 APU with Radeon(tm) HD 7340 Graphics .... after reading the 292 and growing issues, others are using both intel and amd - different versions/same problem...? Maybe reverting back to an earlier driver will help. After all, it started happening AFTER I updated the driver, which I was instructed to do yesterday. Thanks for the possible solution - : )

I am experiencing the same issue since yesterday afternoon once the driver update recommended by HP was installed on my system. HP, Asus, Lenovo, Dell, Gateway, they all run Windows OS and are told by MS what needs to be done to continue a seamless user experience internet access (ie driver updates, etc). My system:

HP2000 Notebook PC

Windows 8.1 64-bit

Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter

The issue started yesterday when I was booted off the router because of a MS update (not sure which one as there are too many to list in a single day) which required me to re-enter my router sec key (even though I used the 'always remember' feature provided by MS). When I input it, I went and manually updated the driver as it requested. For the first 6 hours or so it was fine, no boot-offs, no limited connections. At 2am when I was watching Netflix it kept bumping me off. I found an article that seemed to help temporarily - but it is not a permanent fix. See here http://www.ppartyka.com/2012/12/tutorial-windows-8-laptop-keeps.html ....So, here I am back online looking for a permanent solution before I'm booted off again ;-/ Hoping to find a fix or a patch or an upgrade that resolves this issue.

NOTE to MS: I know your techs are not the repair guys for every router out there, and it is not your job to determine what router will be used to access the internet. However, the main purpose of a laptop or any other device WITH a keyboard & monitor is to access the fabulous WWW...why else do you think your in business? Therefore, if it has your MS WINDOWS OS on it I believe IT IS YOUR JOB TO ENSURE YOUR SOFTWARE WORKS SEAMLESSLY WITH ALL GATEWAYS TO THE INTERNET BEFORE YOU RELEASE YOUR SOFTWARE...Right? That said, it seems there are numerous people experiencing the same problem and it is forcing everyone to rethink what their next OS will be - MAC OR WINDOWS!!!! Capish? Get on it boys and girls asap - please!!!!!
