Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

Since installing 8.1 Pro, I'm having issues with WiFi dropping internet connectivity and always showing "Limited" when clicking on the system tray icon.  When I troubleshoot the problem using the system tool it is always the gateway that is faulty.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled the device drivers several times, installed the newest drivers directly from Intel, restarted the computer, etc.  I can restore connectivity by turning WiFi off then back on, but the connection will drop at what seems to be random intervals.  My applicable system specs are as follows;

Lenovo Y510P  Laptop

Windows 8.1 Pro

Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230

Apple Time Capsule router w/newest firmware

Needless to say this is quite an irritating bug that didn't exist prior to the update to 8.1  I hope this can be resolved quickly. Thanks!

    Could be many other things too. The wifi driver is broke, virus software, DHCP failure somehwere

    Hi if its saying there is a problem with the default gateway then it will be your router that's causing you issues, i would suggest disconnecting anything attached to your router including the power cable for 5 minutes then plug everything back in and retry, if this does not help i would suggest reset your router (usually a button that has to be pushed with a pin) make sure you hold the button in for 20 seconds, and if the problem still persists then i would ring your ISP and complain because it might be a physical problem on there end.

    Thanks for the many replies. I have tried all the suggestions but nothing worked. I'm away for two months so will forget about it until I get back. I wonder if the lodge I stay withs router is somehow not compatible with my setup.

    Hi all,

    I've written before, the 3 cards do not works perfectly.

    Broadcom, Atheros, Killer.

    Intel works, only the driver instal, Device Manager.

    Now checked .exe installer Broadcom, Atheros.

    If you clear the TEMP, click instal. exe, open the installer .exe application runs.

    Drivers for Device Manager, are in the TEMP.

    Copy, paste it into a folder on your desktop manually.

    Exit the installer .exe (not finish) or (Cancel)

    Open Manager Devices, click Update Driver,

    point to that folder manually.

    Enjoy running WIFI and BT :-)

    Broadcom, Atheros, Killer, Intel works all 4 cards.

    Hi all,

    Thanks for many replies. My ISP suggested I just re-boot my gateway modem each time it happened. It was very infrequent, so I went with it. Seemed to work too.

    My computer is brand new and still under warranty, so I called Dell to complain and they had me upgrade a Wifi Driver, and since then the problem has totally disappeared.
