Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

Removed 8.1 went back to 8 and everything is fine.

I totally agree.  I have Apple devices and a Windows XP desktop connected to my network - all work perfectly.  I "upgraded" my main desktop (ethernet connection) and a laptop (wireless) from Windows 8 to 8.1 yesterday and both now have this exact problem.

After three hours on the phone to various help desks (and thanks Linksys for being super helpful), and many more hours trying to diagnose, it is now clear to me that 8.1 is faulty software.

Microsoft need to be honest about this and stop wasting everyone's time.

Sadly, probably everyone here now has the same problem that I do - we have upgraded to a faulty operating system and have no way back (without days of a full re-install of a better operating system). I wish I'd known about this bug before the "upgrade".

Thanks Microsoft for wasting a huge amount of my time.  Apple for me from now on.

I am having the identical problem and I am using Windows RT (Vivotab RT) and the

problem started immediately after I upgraded to 8..1 (RT of course).

Sometimes, I have to reboot and reboot and reboot my device before it will

connect and then after a while it will just drop the connection.

I am very limited on drivers and nic cards being on Windows RT.

I don't think I can go back to 8.0 now that I have hosed my system by "upgrading???"

to 8.1.

I have tried roll back my driver to a previous version (there are 2 versions available in

the options) but after I do that the NIC won't work at all.

it's a Broadcom card.

Problem seems to be isolated to setups where I connect to an open wifi that has a webpage

with an "accept" button to accept the terms and conditions of using the open wifi. The problem

does not seem to happen on networks where I put in a WPA2 key.

Must be more than I thread on this but Brads solution seems to be working for me though only time will tell. But usually if I shut my laptop and opened it again I had the problem and this fixed it.

I had the same problem with my new ASUS laptop. I fixed it by going into network settings-adapter settings and unclicking "ipv6" then going into power management for the adapter and unclicking "allow computer to turn this device off to save power." Problem solved.

But fairly simple

Click Change adapter settings in Network and sharing Center and clear tick by IPv6

Then:-

You can use Device Manager to change the power management settings for a network adapter. To disable this setting in Device Manager, expand Network Adapters, right-click the adapter, click Properties, click the Power Management tab, and then clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box.

Not everyone has a intel card. But seems none the less even with all the different cards. We all had this happen after the update. I too read weeks ago about problems as far back as a year ago. And those haven't been resolved for the most part. But the problem has seem to triple since the 8.1 release and updates. There in the problem resides. Microsoft don't care you say. Can't help but agree there. Too many cards...do you think all the retailers of the cards will really care enough to refund? Perhaps a few lucky ones will get replacements.  I still think some major attention needs to be viewed by Microsoft since it is their software we all are using. The common denominator here. Mine is still working since I followed disabling the WMM..but not sure how long that will hold. Seems everyone is furious and nothing is going to rush this if one year has passed and many still with no solution. It just sucks!
