Since installing 8.1 Pro, I'm having issues with WiFi dropping internet connectivity and always showing "Limited" when clicking on the system tray icon. When I troubleshoot the problem using the system tool it is always the gateway that is faulty. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the device drivers several times, installed the newest drivers directly from Intel, restarted the computer, etc. I can restore connectivity by turning WiFi off then back on, but the connection will drop at what seems to be random intervals. My applicable system specs are as follows;
Lenovo Y510P Laptop
Windows 8.1 Pro
Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230
Apple Time Capsule router w/newest firmware
Needless to say this is quite an irritating bug that didn't exist prior to the update to 8.1 I hope this can be resolved quickly. Thanks!

Fix this by turning your modem off and then turning it back on again.
I spent hours reading all these convoluted so called 'fixes' on advice boards before stumbling on this fix. I'm now back on line but cursing the day I ever bought windows 8 - a truly horrible system that I still can't use properly and cursing the day I hit the update button to windows 8.1 and lost two days to worry and frustration at a time of the year when I really needed the internet
I feel bad for buying new laptop and especially using windows 8. I have new dell laptop, wifi was dropping intermittent. I upgraded to windows 8.1 thinking it might fix the issue. think what, now i can't connect at all. I am decided to get out of windows 8.
This should probably get Microsoft's attention. I've built a wrapper tool that sets your DNS addresses static. We'll see how long this post will live before it is deleted. The tool is meant to be run whenever you relocate with your laptop to another network. This fixes my issues at least, and I belive it will be useful for others. It is Java based, the sourcecode (albeit ugly) is available within the jar file. The file needs to be run with administrator privilegies. Hi you have same laptop as me. I spoke to Acer support and they gave me a link to the wrong driver. I have the Intel Centrino-N105 & they gave me a link to a atheros driver. Not much help. So if you manage to find something that works please let me know. Cheers
Same problem here on an Acer E1-571. Bought it half a year ago with Windows 8. 'Upgraded' it a couple of weeks ago to 8.1 via the Windows shop (for free - thank you Microsoft :-( ) . Now I find myself toggling the wifi connection at each wake-up. All other devices on the same network keep on running smooth (another Windows laptop, a puppy Linux desktop and two Android phones).
Been asking Acer support to help. Poor guys are running in circles: Did you upgrade the wifi driver? Tried the 'Vonnie solved'? Are you on the latest version of your bios? ...
Can't understand big companies just keep you hanging on (does that sounds like Kim Wild?). Maybe I missed the correct reply in the chain. But some engineer might answer something like: 'We are working on it. Hope to solve it in a couple of days.' or 'We still believe it is your network not functionning.' ... .
