Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

Ah yes title does give it away, hadn't spotted that and was reading the recent posts.

I still don't believe the two problems are connected, one issue internet works fine then drops out and with the other problem folks can't connect which is generally what limited connectivity means.

Anyway, the main point is that Microsoft need to address both issues and fess up to the problems.

Oddly enough my laptop worked all day yesterday without dropping out once, go figure?

Actually, this thread IS ABOUT limited connectivity. If you read the first post you would have seen these words making up the first sentence. 

"Since installing 8.1 Pro, I'm having issues with WiFi dropping internet connectivity and always showing "Limited" when clicking on the system tray icon."

So, perhaps you should "start your own thread."

The limited connectivity is not a configuration issue...there's something wrong with the way Windows 8.1 and various drivers are interacting. I can tell you that the Intel drivers are prone to these problems.

I firmly believe that folks with Limited connectivity probably just have configuration issues, which may or may not be fixed with Network Diagnostics, but this is a different problem!  Please start your own thread.

Well, I see your point and agree with your reasoning, but disagree slightly with your "headline" ;-)

As I see it, it's not about "actual limited" in the good, old sense - misconfigured nedwork/adapter, but rather a "positive false" diagnose message and error complex, stating "limited".

Could it perhaps be caused by an algorithm introduced in Win 8 / 8.1 that turns off your network connectivity with dubious motives (saving power, mobile network cost) based on erroneous measurements as input (e.g. some secret intermittently unreachable internet nodes) ???

So - as othe as Win-pre-8, OSX, Linux and other devices do not have such a "fancy" algorithm, based on dubious motiveswith erroneous input - so they plainly work :-/ Sorry, I think this smells of big-time do-do handled badly - maybe hits the fan anytime soon :-/

This is all about having installed Windows 8.1 and only on windows 8.0 or 8.1 having the Wi-Fi just drop out after a totally random interval. The people with this issue generally/often have other PCs with Windows 7 or XP or even Vista that work with their routers perfectly okay with no issues.

This issue is where a Wi-Fi connection that works fine for an hour or two suddenly drops out even when the PC or laptop is being used. People have checked other devices and none of them have dropped out. I regularly use two laptops simultaneously, one is windows 7 the other is 8.1 and ONLY the Windows 8.1 Wi-Fi- drops out.

I agree with one person who believes it may be one of the 8.1 subsequent updates that has caused the problem. I have reloaded the manufacturers correct driver, changed power settings to disable the system from closing the device or laptop and NOTHING suggested so far fixes this problem!
