Hi All,
I have an issue with windows 8.1 of which I would like someone to shed some light on for me.
The issue I am having is that every so often since upgrading 8.1 last night it keeps locking up on me for no apparent reason resulting in a a restart by the reset switch, and this never happened with windows 8 but it is annoying how 8.1 is now doing it.
Can anyone help? as I am seriously debating downgrading from windows 8.1 back to 8 as I don't want a system that locks up on me and is unstable all the time due to using my computer to do coursework for college and can't afford to lose any work that has not been saved.

since I've done that trick I found the system has been running great. I'll repeat it here and then try to scatter it into other replies. People should be made aware of this trick. Go into Task Manager. Right click on Windows Explorer. Click "restart"... then restart your PC... the PC will take awhile to reboot... the Windows system must be "reinstalling" or something.... this reset everything very well, for me....
It is odd that you couldn't run dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealthhere is a link to the scanner http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx If it doesn't work you can search Bing for Microsoft security scanner
Did it give you an error? Maybe it was typed in wrong or you weren't running command prompt as admin. You can copy from here and right click then select paste in the command prompt.
Does dism /online cleanup-image /checkhealth or dism /online cleanup-image /scanhealth run.
One of those will scan the computer for issues and report back if there is anything to fix. The other will the registry and other places to see if Windows set flags which is just its way of marking that there is an issue that needs repaired.
None will try and fix anything but they should run.

I had already updated the BIOS, but only a slight improvement in freezing (now only about 70 to 80 seconds instead of 2 or three minutes). I have an RSS drive on my machine, so the next driver I am going to try to update is the RSS. Instead of going straight to Intel for it (people recommend going to the manufacturer first) I contacted ASUS to say I am looking for Intel Rapid Storage device driver version 12.9.0.1001 but the most recent version on your (ASUS) download/support page is 11.6.0.1030. After some time windows freezes and I have to unplug it and turn on again.

AMD A4 5300 dual-core 3.4 GHz
8 gb Kingston DDR3 ram
AMD integrated graphics r-7 240
PC is brand new.
The issue occurs when I'm browsing, actually when play some video on youtube, or on google maps. On windows maps problem does not exist. Now I'm using chrome in windws 8 mode and im browsing for a while but I'm don't even think to go on youtube. Problem exists after I installed creative cloud app and on 90% downloading photoshop cc PC freezes. I was thinking is just that. photoshop was installed because I waited for a couple of minutes an then unplugged my PC. After that i tried to download illustrator cc too and the same thing happened again. After that when I spend a couple of minutes on youtube or google maps PC freezes and I have to unplug it. I have AVG and after scan it says that the PC is Ok. All other programs related to internet works just fine. And I updated my drivers.
PC is brand new and I don't want to install a bunch of programs.
It looks like it freezes when playing youtube videos in full screen and downloading file larger than 500mb.
In safe mode i didn't found any problems but on clean boot problem still exist. I tried system restore but that didn't fixed nothing. All of my programs are uninstalled and I can't install them back again because PC freezes when installing. I barely installed Office 2013. Is it best to go to service and reinstall windows again or is it better to install windows 7 or XP? Graphic drivers are updated. PC freezes after couple of seconds inactivity. I'm graphic designer so i need full functional PC fastest is possible.
Please reply.
