Windows Update error 'Code 80246002'

Windows 7 Ultimate

I manually ran Windows Update and starting today it fails and provides an error  "Code 80246002"

I have seen (in here) recommendations to check for prior failed updates to resolve this...  I have no prior failed updates.

I've run both the Windows Update 'fixit' and  'WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab'

The fixit says it fixed several items, but failed to fix what it calls a windows update error, with this error code:  0x80070490

I can't find a solution so far... anybody have any suggestions?

    [It would appear that the TWC issue may have affected subscribers of other ISPs as well.]

    No... see above.  It 'cured' itself a day or so after the fixit's failed.

    I have had this happen on a number of Windows 7 machines, usually after an update to Windows Update from Microsoft.  None of the normal suggestions seem to work to correct this issue but this has worked for me.

    First of All SHUT DOWN your machine from the Start Menu.  This will tell you if any updates are waiting to install.

    Restart your machine and attempt to search for Updates through Windows update again.  If you get the error 80246002 again this worked every time for me Stop wuauserv and restart wuauserv through your Command Prompt.

    Click Start

    All Programs

    Accessories

    RIGHT Click Command Prompt and Run as ADMINISTRATOR

    at the cursor TYPE:   net stop wauaserv  (enter)

    You will see a message telling you the service is stopping

    at the cursor TYPE:  net start wuauserv  (enter)

    This will restart the Windows Update after Windows has installed its update to the update service.

    I cannot guarantee it will work for everyone BUT it has worked on ALL the machines I have had error 80246002 on.

    All my computers running Windows 7 started doing this yesterday. I'm on Verizon FIOS. Maybe MS changed the server address and it has not propagated through the DNS servers on other ISP's?
