Windows Update error 'Code 80246002'

Windows 7 Ultimate

I manually ran Windows Update and starting today it fails and provides an error  "Code 80246002"

I have seen (in here) recommendations to check for prior failed updates to resolve this...  I have no prior failed updates.

I've run both the Windows Update 'fixit' and  'WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab'

The fixit says it fixed several items, but failed to fix what it calls a windows update error, with this error code:  0x80070490

I can't find a solution so far... anybody have any suggestions?

    ISSUE: during reinstall of win7 pro from scratch I get the 802....error as descriped above, after several painless rounds of windows updates over a 4 hour period

    RESOLUTION:  ipconfig /flushdns

    This issue has occurred in our organization several times since the August patches were released and in all causes we were able to resolve it with one of the following two methods.

    Scenario 1:  After uninstalling KB2982791, to install replacement update KB2993651 (as per https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/MS14-045), rebooting and then checking for Windows Updates some machines would get the 80246002 error message.  

    Fix: Manually download KB2993651 (the replacement patch for KB2982791) from the Microsoft Update Catalog (https://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=KB2993651), install it and then checking for Windows Updates again - the 80246002 error code went away.

    Scenario 2: After installing KB2993651, rebooting and then checking for Windows Updates some machines would get the 80246002 error code.  

    Fix: The fix in this case was to uninstall KB2993651, reboot, re-install KB2993651, reboot and then check for Windows Updates again - the 80246002 error code went away.

    sigh....I stand corrected.  Updates no longer functions ....back to receiving the 80246002 error message.  Is there any news from Microsoft on how they intend to solve this issue????

    They fixed it now just click on "Try Again". Although updates are fine I had to reinstall Norton Internet Security and Google Chrome after that terrible update patch they sent us last wednesday. Its the worst bungle I saw from Microsoft.

    I don't think its a DNS issue either.  I think its an issue with either one of the August patches or with the new Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320.
