Windows Update error 'Code 80246002'

Windows 7 Ultimate

I manually ran Windows Update and starting today it fails and provides an error  "Code 80246002"

I have seen (in here) recommendations to check for prior failed updates to resolve this...  I have no prior failed updates.

I've run both the Windows Update 'fixit' and  'WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab'

The fixit says it fixed several items, but failed to fix what it calls a windows update error, with this error code:  0x80070490

I can't find a solution so far... anybody have any suggestions?

    I'm having the same problem. Whenever I check for updates I get the following:

    So right now I'm really getting really p***** off because this was done on a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) w/ SP1. Before I formatted my SSD I still had this issue. So in desperate need I ran the Windows Update Diagnostic and it "supposedly"  fixed it but to no avail. I tried running a batch file to rename the Windows Update download folder...that didn't work; it worked before. I'm at my wits end here and I'm about to smash my computer >:(

    If anyone has a solution that would be greatly appreciated now.

    Mine just spontaneously fixed with "an update applied at 3:14 pm" today.

    Same.  It appears to me that it is the most recent update that causes the problem.  If I System Restore prior to that update, it "works fine", but as soon as that last update is applied, back to the beginning...
