Connect to internet is greyed out with airplane mode

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 R. Windows 8.1. Everything was working fine. I stopped using the internet because I didn't have one for few days.

Now I have a connection. I turned on the laptop and surprise. The connect software button is grayed out along with the airplane mode. Tried everything even turning off the Kaspersky and the firewall. Still nothing made it work. Software is up to date weather for the WiFi hardware or windows. Ethernet works.

Why is this happening?

I know that airplane mode stops all the signals and I stated that it's grayed out so there is no way to turn it on.

The microsoft website is useless although it shouldn't. Why? Because they created the program and they don't know the answer which I figured out.

You will need to activate the wireless card from the control panel--Device manager--network adapter--right click your modem--properties--power management--uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

This is not listed by microsoft in any troubleshooting wich is so bad that it couldnt find a solution to a problem.

    just thought id put this in there so far I just did this and its working I pushed my fn and then my PrtScr by my f12 and my insert buttons and when I held the fn down with the prtscr it let me move the airplane mode off and the wifi on so that might help! http://gateway-us.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1304/kw/no%20connections%20are%20available/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xNDIxNDI0MzA3L3NpZC93X1BKVEJjbQ%3D%3D it shows what to look for in pictures and the button with 1 of those pics with fn is the combo to use it seems hope it helps good luck :P

    thank you soooooo much,, you are the ONLY one who had an answer for me, none of the other options worked for me because the button was greyed out. I just wanted to personally thank you for helping me out with this big issues I was having( I couldn't use my internet without a Ethernet cord), I have been looking for an answer for days now lol, thank you thank you thank you thank you!

    hey I thought I might let you know that it doesn't help (unchecking that box) it has nothing to do with airplane mode :P (I figured it out) all you have to do is press,, the blue 'Fn' button with the F2 key lol, it happened to be as simple as that

    DO NOT RESTART OR RESET YOUR COMPUTER (IT WILL NOT HELP) ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS~~...........~~press theblue 'Fn' (found on bottom row of your keyboard) with the F1 key~~..............~~
