How do I disable Automatic Update for Windows Update

"I cannot even force the driver download directly from the printers website - WHAT!!!"

The above statement is not intended operation --  Microsoft does nothing to block you from downloading the official drivers from your printer company's website.  Since this is not intended operation, please include some details and we'll get this problem fixed for you. Please include:

1. What printer do you have?
2. What website are you downloading printer software from?
3. What error message do you get when you click the download button on the printer website?

I thank you for this information; I have changed this setting according to your instructions and am hoping this resolves my issues!  I participated in a remote assistance session during which a tech reset this to "manual" for me, however, updates are still DOWNLOADING, and I suspect that as soon as I restart my computer, they will install (does that sound right to you?) Anyway, I AM one who has been effected by the driver issue (or rather, the lack thereof!)  Of all things, somehow they managed to develop and then install these latest updates and now I am completely unable to use my printer (big problem for me) as there is no driver available at this time - I find this absolutely remarkable, for a number of reasons I think! Not the least of which include:

1)  WHY is WINDOWS controlling my ability to use ANY of my devices - that's actually way too invasive for me!  Somehow, they have made the installation of my printers driver dependent on them - I cannot even force the driver download directly from the printers website - WHAT!!!  And make matters worse, the driver they've assumed control over, they neglected to provide, which has reduced my printer to basically what amounts to an overpriced oversized paperweight!  Noooot ok!!!

2)  Why on earth are they forcing the installation of incomplete updates???  Obviously they neglected to complete this particular one at least, before unveiling it on the unsuspecting masses who they have taken the control over whether or not we accept the updates away from most of us by burying the setting somewhere you'd have to be able to write code and program to find (or be as smart as you are, anyway!)

I wonder....is this the beginning of the end of free will........?

I have been reading a lot of posts on here...

Basically, Microsoft support will only post what there told to post.

This is how you turn Auto Updates on or off on Windows RT.

1. Hit the Windows button.
2. Type view local services and click it.
3. Find Windows update and right click Startup Type.
4. Go to Properties, you'll see Startup type again.

5. Click disable and apply.

Turn it on in the same way.

What do you mean every update since Christmas isn't compatible?  I've installed these updates on thousands across thousands of computers across my company, for hundreds and hundreds of people.  Like these ones I pushed out to all our machines a couple weeks ago.  So far, my help desk number hasn't been called, everyone's just working normally.

I know what you mean. Every update since Christmas 2017 is not compatible with windows 10. Turning off the updates is the only option I have left. I already asked Dell and my warranty is expired and I am not going to pay them to fix the problem. Microsoft is not helping at all. I wasted 3+ days with tech support. Next time, I refuse to buy Microsoft. Their stuff is pure garbage and so is their so called service.
