Cant use windows 8.1 Windows Easy Transfer on Windows 8.1

What a bunch of BS. Windows file transfer wasn't only to go from older versions of windows but to go to NEW COMPUTERS DUMM A$$E$. Microsoft short sighted once again. Next they are going to bring the feature back if you pay 89.99 so dumb. I am done with windows 8 and windows 8.1 Going to go buy me an apple. yuk

Windows Easy Transfer is removed from Windows 8.1.

Items that now can be easily transfered by using SkyDrive in combination with other services and tools, such as Xbox Music to back up your music collection, and File History to keep files always backup and up-to-date.

SUCKS ASSSSSSSSSS

Windows Easy Transfer DOES exist in 8.1 (at least it does in a box that has been upgraded from 8.0, search apps for "easy") however it will ONLY allow transfer from 8 or 7.  It refuses to read a .MIG file from XP.  I needed to transfer from XP (because support for XP is about to end...) to a new laptop running 8.1.  It seems absurd to me that MS removes support for XP and at the same time removes the ability to migrate away from XP. 

BUT there is a way!  I used WET for XP to 7 on the XP box and then fired up WET on an 8.0 box.  This gives you the option to save WET to a USB stick.  I then installed WET (8.0) on the 8.1 box and it allowed me to transfer the files from the .MIG file created on the XP box.

I was also disappointed to just discover it. FYI USMT is the command line version of this. Comes with ADK so I am going in that direction.

My company blocks SkyDrive like many other cloud file services. And there is no way I want to move 50+ GB over my T-1 over work on a regular basis. Additionally, I don't want to do that at home either or when I am helping others. I get the "support engineer" title. I can name a bunch of other things that should/could be deprecated, this was not one.

My VPN (Junos Pulse) has been broken since the 8.1 update to Windows 8 and I was looking to move my files because my Surface Pro (gen 1) is not installing the supported version properly. My Surface Pro won't boot. Since I can't rollback to plain Windows 8 I need to move my files off to attempt a fix. Now I'm pleasantly greeted with deprecated. Why does a point 1 (.1) break so much stuff and every new version of Internet Explorer break a hefty number of corporate websites I use every time? Chrome and FireFox don't give me the same grief.

MS is over-correcting on its failures.
