Cant use windows 8.1 Windows Easy Transfer on Windows 8.1

SkyDrive is not an acceptable method when moving confidential files.  This is a major snafu for Microsoft for people who only use local accounts.  We do not want our stuff on the internet for any reason.  Google and Microsoft have made it very clear they read our stuff in order to market to use, what they sell to data aggregators is still up to question.  My test so, what you say in emails and post in documents somehow always ends up in a ad on facebook or from Amazon.  If they are getting it, who else.  Just one more reason to move away from Microsoft.  Google is already history for me.

Gee, it would be nice if you had something in the Windows 8.1 WET that said "hey, this won't work anymore" instead of just letting us struggle with it.   I know your sales people want to shamelessly push skydrive down our throats and tell us what to do so they can compete with icloud, but it makes the lives of us small business IT admins so much more difficult. 

Older dying XP machines need to be upgraded, and so many computers on the market are 8.1.   This "depreciation" of WET will ensure that people will still buy Win 7 machines and slow the adoption of Win 8.1 even more.  I will tell you that when I go to buy another machine for my business, it will be Win 7. 

It's no wonder that Win 8.1 is run on only 1% more computers in the world than Win Vista.  Microsoft, you have really laid an egg.  This reminds me of Microsoft Bob.

Windows XP is still run on 37% of computers around the world, and Windows 7 is on 44% of computers.  Why Microsoft, WHY? Get a clue.  Hopefully there is a solution for Win 10?

I have been the biggest Microsoft fan since MS-DOS.  Steve Ballmer should be stripped naked and marched through the streets with a woman behind him ringing a bell shouting "SHAME".  Come back Bill, PLEASE COME BACK!!

Maybe we shouldn't be so surprised.  Microsoft took its first clues from IBM back in the day.  Just imagine if Kendal didn't go sailing that fateful day.  Back in the early '80's I did many projects with Microsoft Fortran only to have them drop the project.  Then they promised APL and promised and teased and then it went away.  For those of us very familiar with CPM/MPM we could see the possibilities yet nothing happened.  It was as though all progress stopped with the advent of Microsoft and Apple.  If there is one thing I have learned about them since that fateful day in Anaheim Ca. at NCC is they know how to market a product.  This move they make may be for greed, to sell our information to data aggregators, or it may be a good strategy for Microsoft's future.  I tend to lean for a future because they have proven they can market.  If we in IT are wise we will discover a way around now so that we may keep our sanity.  I read a terms and conditions the other day and it said, while your data is stored on our IT systems it is protected by privacy laws however, the data moving into and out of our IT systems is not protected.  Got any ideas on how to make some extra money?

this really takes the cake. And i just loaded up a win10 image to see and it is completely gone from windows 10.

I used this daily. Most of our hundreds of machines are on windows 7, but today was the first time i had to move a user from one windows 8 machine to another.

Now I have to copy their settings BY HAND, and back up their user profile BY HAND. And deal with support calls for weeks now about such and such a configuration setting being different, and that I shouldn't have even upgraded their computer in the first place..... **** you microsoft! you just made my job a little bit harder. I wish to hell i could be done with this damn company or somehow make you suffer as well. f you, and f your cloud drive ****, or whatever reason you got rid of this feature that like everyone working with computers uses, at home and in the office.

WINDOWS 7 FOR LIFE it seems....

EDIT: thanks to whomever posted about using the migwiz from 8.0 ISO. That did the trick for sure. suck it MS!!!! I will go mark your post as the solution now. Be aware that you need to use 8.0 migwiz for both capture and restore of the userprofile.

And to the M$ guy who said "users never use this" you can just straight up get bent. Administrators use it, and if you haven't i would wager you never fixed a computer in the real world in your life.
